Love this quote from President Gordon B. Hinckley!!
“I think that vicarious work for the dead more nearly approaches the vicarious sacrifice of the Savior Himself than any other work of which I know. It is given with love, without hope of compensation, or repayment or anything of the kind. What a glorious principle.”

"It matters tremendously what we do in relation to those who have gone before, because they live today as spirits and shall live again as immortal souls, and that because of Jesus Christ."  Elder D. Todd Christoffersen

I've been getting a lot of questions about this and how to use this, so I've decided to add to the post.
The circles with each number: These are solely for your benefit.... to keep each bag in order since they'll be kept shut and you can just place them where they need to be.
The wordstrips: These are meant as reminders for the kids and maybe for a matching game with the items if you have time. You can use them or not.
The instructions (scriptures/quotes): They are in no particular order, you can do them as they are or how the Spirit moves you to teach to your children. You can use these as you want to and in any order. Maybe Senior Primary would understand "instructions" but the Junior Primary may not. You could do Peace first, Eternal Covenants etc.
Instead of having these in/on the bag you could also keep the cards for Senior Primary to make it harder for them and have the match the item and the scripture/quote with the wordstrip
The Wastebasket: This is where you would end, with a treat or the handout and a treat inside of a box to be handed to each child.

AGCS: Sign up!!!

I am asking for your help!! I'll be hosting the After General Conference Soiree! Beginning on October 13th, you can go there to get more details about it, but I need some help from all you talented ladies and gents. I would like to do a FHE lesson based on each speaker's talk.... each speaker's talk will be posted each Friday with a link to an FHE... We already have some amazingly talented gals doing some of the General Authorities, and now I'm offering them to you. To help us and/or to expose your own blog! These are the speakers that DO NOT have someone doing a FHE, I'll be adding the "other speakers" right after Conference. Please comment below with your email and which speaker you'd like to do, or you can also Facebook message me, if you would like to participate and I'll get you on the sign-up sheet and let you know when your week is next.

October Sharing Time WK 3

Come join in on the fun at the After General Conference Soiree, starts Friday, October 13th!!

I love the idea of using hands, for this you'll need one of the hand printouts for each child.... give them a few minutes to write down their name (instructions in outline) then instead of inviting them up... after they have written their name (or the teachers have) have the kids crumple up their hands... then on the count of 3 throw up to the front... they'll have a blast I promise! Then you pick as many as time allows and read whose name is on the hand... ask them what blessing or ordinance they've gotten and how they felt and how it has strengthened them (read fully in outline) - if they want to share- and invite them to put on the board of pictures with tape, magnet, or pin.

(all different colors)

Pictures
Sacrament
Confirmation
Father's Blessing
Blessing Sick
Priesthood Blessing ( I include because some children may not have a father/grandfather to give father's blessings, but can still receive a blessing)
Baptism

I couldn't find a baby blessing, however Google Images comes up with a lot, but for privacy, copyrights, I'm not going to post any, but for your Primary, I'm sure you could snag one just to show without sharing at all. I love the 3rd page, 2nd row, 3rd from the left.. DARLING!

11 Primary Teacher Bag Must-Haves

Getting ready for General Conference? Come check out THIS linky party and ideas!
Come join in on the fun at the After General Conference Soiree, starts Friday, October 13th!!

What do you have in your Primary bag?
Here's what's in mine...

-Magnets- I have both the circle magnets but I also have a magnet strip that you can take of the backing and stick it onto something, I usually use this if the kids want it as a magnet or I run out of the circle magnets for the board.

-Chalk and Eraser- I have the colored kind, the kids love them. For time fillers, which is rare, they enjoy playing Hangman on the board, my rule is they have to pick a word from the scriptures that we read.

-Gospel Art Book- whenever I can't find a picture that I want to use in the manual's pictures, typically the book has what I'm looking for.

- Scissors- I've come to learn that sometimes you need more handouts then you think... I typically print out 2 or 3 more handouts then I need and just stick them into my binder for the just in case, and I can cut them out if needed. If I don't need them they go into a file at home.

-Tape and Gluestick- I enjoy puzzles with a hidden message on the back, put the puzzles together flip it over and there's a song or a quote on the back... love... Or when we did the Armor of God, the kids each were able to tape or glue their armor onto their guys.

-Playdough- just little containers of it (party pack)... if I forget a game or other object(s) for the lesson, I have playdough and we play a "Cranium" type game where the kids can either draw with chalk or sculpt with the dough. Very fun and the kids love it. I also have let the kids use a small playdough to create a figure resembling the hero in the scriptures and let them keep it. Just a couple weeks ago, one of the girls in my class was telling me about her King Benjamin figure how she has it on her dresser. Awe, touched heart :)

-Sketch Book- this just blank paper bound in a book so they don't go all over the place, it fun seeing the pictures that the kids draw and color after watching a scripture video or read a scripture story.

-Markers/ Colored Pencils/Crayons/ Pencils- for the drawing/coloring I keep a stash of markers and twistable crayons when we pull out coloring pages or blank pages from the sketch book.

Time Fillers- These I have but I rarely need them, we usually go right to the bell I do however keep my Articles of Faith Cards and Faith in God for boys and girls as well as a Children's Songbook. If the kids want they can work on a project their working on or they can study the Articles of Faith, or they can draw and color pictures for the songs. I also have a bean bag to play "hot potato" with the song for the Books of the Book of Mormon. These are needed rarely, but I keep them for the just in case and as the Spirit moves me.

-Extra Small Books of Mormon (or is it Book of Mormons?--- The Best Two Years' Debate), I think in the 1 1/2 years since teaching Primary, I've had 1 or 2 weeks that each of the kids has their scriptures, so it's nice to have extras so everyone can follow along and they are pretty cheap and small. They can be found at the Distribution Center.

-Pocket Kleenex- I know, I know, you're like... kleenex??? Really, as a must have... but without fail each week those boys in the back HAVE to go in the middle of class to blow their nose, get a drink, etc.... and it takes the class a few minutes to get back on track, so at the beginning those that need drinks get them, those that need the bathroom go.... and if they need a tissue I whip one out... like Mary Poppins. It's very handy now especially with the weather changing and nose bleeds as well.

I love the idea of puzzles from the outline and having the kids tell you what they think it means, instead of you telling them.... letting them share with you what they know and have learned in their young lives :)

From Church Magazines:
The Aaronic Priesthood: What's so Great about it? - could easily be adapted for Primary Children
I love the true story, and the question is so important... what's great about the Aaronic Priesthood, EVERYTHING! Love this article.

"What’s so great about holding the Aaronic Priesthood? Through its keys and powers, it helps us to live better lives, to be clean in our thoughts and actions, to show more love and respect to our parents and familymembers, to keep our bodies free from drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and other harmful substances. This power strengthens a young man and helps him to keep his mind and body clean and to have the courage to say no."

The Aaronic Prieshood- a Gift from God - I love President Hinckley, he speaks to the young men, giving strong testimony of the Aaronic Priesthood. Very good talk for those almost getting the Priesthood, or being reminded of how important this is for our Church.

"...for in the exercise of our priesthood, we are acting in behalf of God our Eternal Father and Jesus Christ, His Son."

Primary 4, Lesson 34

So this week, I was planning on teaching this lesson; however our Primary Presidency had other plans. Instead of classes they had all the kids rehearse the Primary Program.....
Sigh, so I actually won't be teaching this lesson until the 30th, because of the dedication of the Brigham City Temple.... but I thought I would share with you guys what I am planning on doing.

LDS.org Primary 4, Lesson 34: Christ Teaches the Nephites Beatitudes

I love playing games with the lessons, they're so fun to plan but also every week I bring a game, the class participates, I love getting those boys in the back excited about learning.... some may not think that it's reverent, but I feel that they learn more and find that the scriptures are indeed fun to learn about. You may be the judge.
For this lesson, we are going to play some bowling!
A few months ago, I bought this little bowling set at Wal-mart for about $6 and during the summer it got plenty of uses :) I used painter's tape to stick the paper to the pin because 1) it doesn't hurt anything, and 2) I need the papers in tact to be put on the board with a magnet.
NOTE: If you don't have these bowling pins, you could also make your own using empty 2 liter, 1 liter, 20 ou, or water bottles, you can make them as fancy as you would like.... Meet the Dubiens has a fun way using paint to decorate them.

I taped the printout with the scriptures to each of the pins (you'll need 8). On the board, I'll have magneted the other half of the scripture in no particular order. One of the kids come up and "bowl", they pick one of the pins that DID NOT go down, and then say it out loud, the class looks up the scripture and the first person who knows the answer raises their hand to put them together on the board... then I will reread the scripture and then we will discuss that "beattitude". If they knock down all the pins, they can pick any one they would like to.
The questions, I'll have magneted to the board, I like having a question or 2 to get the kids thinking and will go to those questions at the end and discuss at least one of them....

FHE: Temples

Getting ready for General Conference? Come check out THIS linky party and ideas!

This coming Sunday, the long awaited completion and dedication of the Brigham City Utah Temple will come to fruition! Our Ogden temple is currently under renovation and so we have had to travel to Bountiful or to Logan to go to the temple, but this will be much closer for us... so in preparation of it, we had an FHE all about temples.

We based the lesson off of THIS talk from the Friend (don't you just love the Friend, so many valuable lessons)

For our activity with the lesson, I made up a puzzle for A, he LOVES puzzles! I printed them out, glued them together,  contact papered them and then cut them for future use in our Sunday Box.

(includes both pages)

For our activity, I made up some lacing cards, I printed a few of THESE silhouette temples, changed the color in Photoshop, contact papered them, then hole punch around the edges. Take yarn, tie the end to one of the holes and there you have it. These will also be making their way to our Sunday box.

The second activity, I thought we could do was temple painting. I printed out one of the silhouettes on an 8.5x11 page, then I cut that out, penciled it onto a piece of cardboard from a diaper box, then using butcher paper we would go to town using paints.
But alas, it was getting close to bedtime, getting darker, and the boys were at each other and SO ready for bed... so we'll have to save the painting for another day.
NOTE: I was going to do yogurt finger painting because I'm not comfortable using regular paints with H.
All I do is add different colors of food coloring to plain yogurt (we buy a big container of it, we use it ALL the time)... safe to eat and fun :) Bonus for a happy mommy!
Here's a pretty good ratio for food coloring to yogurt from Blissfully Domestic...
