Welcome, Jessica from Time Savors with downloadable Book of Mormon books for toddlers!
I am so excited to be here on Latter-day Chatter! This is such an incredible blog and Jess offers so many wonderful things! I'm happy to get the chance to introduce myself here on her site.
My name is Jessica and I am a wife to a great husband and mother to a 3 year old daughter and a new son. My husband and I met at BYU and after having our daughter, I put my finance career on hold to stay home with her. Being a stay-at-home mom is so much busier than I ever thought it could be, but it's also the biggest joy and reward in my life right now. I enjoy cooking, reading, teaching piano, digital scrapbooking, basketball and working on my Etsy Store on the side when I find those rare spare moments.
The theme of my store is "Time-Savors" where I share the items I've created to either save time in my own busy life or to make being a mom easier while having fun along the way. I've got a bunch of Holiday Survival packs underway, but my main project right now is Book of Mormon Stories {For Toddlers and Children}.
Background behind the Project: When my daughter turned 2, her vocabulary took off. Before she was 2 1/2, she could identify every Disney Princess with the right prince, and also tell you each Princess' story from memory. We could read story after story, but anytime I introduced the simplified scripture stories I had from the Distribution Center, she'd lose interest within minutes. I began looking everywhere for something that was more alluring to a small child but wasn't able to find anything that fit what I was looking for.
1) More than just an activity book; I wanted a simple explanation of the entire story so she would be learning the storyline
2) Bright and eye catching (like the Disney stories) so it would grab and hold her attention
3) Written in such a way that she could learn and tell the stories by herself
4) Interactive so we could do the stories together!
I couldn't find anything that fit what I was looking for. Some products were close but so heavily activity based that I felt the story got lost along the way. My husband and I brainstormed and I began the sketches of what I wanted. Within a few months, I'd done 5 stories along with quizzes and characters for her to play with. Within literally 3 minutes, my daughter could tell the entire story of Lehi leaving Jerusalem. I'd printed all the characters out and ironed them on flannel and she used them to tell "Daddy" the story of Lehi. All of a sudden the scriptures were fun! She passed all the quizzes the first time and now Sundays were exciting for her. The flannel characters actually stick to our benches at church so sacrament was a breeze while she played with her Lehi's and Nephi's and learned the stories I'd printed and laminated for her.
Since then I've been able to create 3 sets with the final set coming out this fall. I've had enough requests I hope to be able to continue on to the Bible. This product was something I hoped to be able to share with others and help them teach their own kids the gospel. I've enjoyed creating them and hope that I'm helping others along the way.
I'd LOVE to hear feedback, requests, or your questions! Thanks again Jess for letting me be here today!
