AGCS:President Thomas S. Monson

This week, Chatter Bird Nicole, will be taking this amazing talk by President Monson.

NOTE: These are Nicole's own thoughts and are not to be construed as doctrine of the Church, if you would like to learn more about the Church, please go to Mormon.org, or email me (latterdaychatter@yahoo.com) and I'd be happy to answer questions!
When I read this talk it really hit home about stopping and counting my blessings. How many times I had prayed for answer and never thought about what the answer was until later when I thought to myself "You had that problem whatever happened?" Then a light clicks on and I go oh yea that was my answer.
Right now, I have a huge request and issue I need help with but I keep getting the answer "Remember it's on the Lord's time, not yours!" This has been very difficult for me and no matter how bad I want this blessing, I have to remember it is the Lord's time and he knows when the time is right. I know it will happen at some point, when it does I will look back on all the small moments that got us where we will be and be very grateful for small blessings that got us there!

AGCS: Linda S. Reeves

For the weeks where there will be 2 talks, one will be posted on Friday the other on the following Wednesday. For the Prophet and Counselors (3 talks), one will be posted on Friday, one on Monday, the last on Wednesday. I hope that all works for everyone!

For the General Relief Society Meeting, every year I go down to Salt Lake and spend the whole day with my Grandma and Aunts, it's like Christmas with all the memories and fun that we have and I look forward to it every year. For this one, we went to the stake center, for this talk, I was found fidgeting, as I was listening to it, it felt like she was talking about death or losing a child, etc and I had not experienced that so I brushed it aside... but then... I read this amazing talk! Reading it and reading it.... I feel like the main message for me and what will be the basis for the FHE is:

"our Heavenly Father and our Savior, Jesus Christ, know us and love us. They know when we are in pain or suffering in any way. They do not say, “It’s OK that you’re in pain right now because soon everything is going to be all right." They feel the depth of our suffering, and we can feel of Their love and compassion in our suffering."

If you are not familiar with the song "My Heavenly Father Loves Me", you can print it HERE.... along the left side, the 3rd option- Print Song.

This week is actually Dede again!!

NOTE: These are Dede's own thoughts and are not to be construed as doctrine of the Church, if you would like to learn more about the Church, please go to Mormon.org, or email me (latterdaychatter@yahoo.com) and I'd be happy to answer questions!

I really loved this talk.  Several years ago, I started a new job that required I work graveyards with two other people.  My first night on the shift, one of the men I worked with said to me that he was really glad to have me on the shift.  I said thank you and went about my work.  A few minutes later the same gentleman said to me "The only reason we wouldn't want you on this shift is if you were a Mormon."  I was in the middle of drinking some water and just shrugged and turned away. I am embarrassed to say that I didn't proclaim "I am a Mormon. I know it, I live it, I love it!"  I have thought about that situation many times, and how much better I could have handled it.  I am proud to say that I am now older, wiser, and stronger in my testimony.  I would love to have a t-shirt that proudly declares "I am a Mormon."  Since I don't have a t-shirt, I will have to make just as strong a declaration by my actions, and the example I set for those around me.  I hope this FHE lesson will help each of you with just that!   Enjoy.  Dede

AGCS Week 2: Elder L. Tom Perry

Another week has gone since we have heard our dear Prophet and Apostles teach us, guide us, and direct us. But no need to fret, we're hear to discuss, share our thoughts, and snag an amazing FHE. This week, one of my Chatter Birds, has taken the reins for this talk. Welcome Dede!

NOTE: These are Dede's own thoughts and are not to be construed as doctrine of the Church, if you would like to learn more about the Church, please go to Mormon.org, or email me (latterdaychatter@yahoo.com) and I'd be happy to answer questions!

I was really inspired by several point in Elder Perry's talk.  While I chose to focus on the "Family Culture" aspect for this FHE lesson, I also really loved his five points for parents to use in creating stronger family cultures.  First, I believe that his instruction to "pray in earnest that Heavenly Father will help you to love, understand, and guide the children He has sent you" is truly inspired.  Of course we love our children, indiscriminately and  irrevocably.  But, do we truly understand them?  When children go astray, or begin to wander off the straight and narrow path, parents can and do pray to know what to do or how to do it, but praying to understand why our kids are doing these things can and will lead to even greater love and make it that much easier to guide them. Second, we have all heard that it is important to have meals together.  This seems to be such a foreign concept in many homes, but it can make such a difference. I especially love Elder Perry's further instruction to use dinner time as a time of communication and teaching of family values.  My children seem to come alive at the dinner table.  Everyone is sitting, relaxed, hopefully enjoying their meal; it gives each member of the family a chance to express themselves to everyone all at once.  It's a natural teaching place, as everyone is facing each other, can see each other's faces. Feeding someone is an act of love, so it is only natural to spend time nourishing their brains and spirits at the same time! Third, Elder Perry encourages parents to communicate with your children's church teachers and leaders.  These leaders have been called of God and set apart specifically to teach your children.  That calling entitles them to revelation about what is best for their class, including your kid!  Isn't it amazing that our loving Heavenly Father has worked out this network of leaders so that no one is ever on their own? Visiting and Home Teachers, Auxiliary presidencies, Bishoprics, etc are all available and willing to help us as parents. Fourth, Elder Perry encourages us to share our testimonies often with our children.  I know that for many, the idea of getting up to bear your testimony in Sacrament meeting is daunting at best.  But our children need to hear us stand and say what we believe in.  This does not have to be in a formal setting, we can and should bear our testimonies at home during FHE, at family meetings, or whenever the spirit moves us. Teach your children to not be afraid to declare what they believe in. Finally, Elder Perry teaches us that families should be organized based on clear simple family rules and expectations.  Children can not behave in the manner that is expected of them, if they do not understand what that is.  Rules need to be clear and concise, with reasonable consequences. The fulfillment of responsibilities needs to result in reasonable rewards. These rewards need not always be monetary, however establishing an allowance and teaching children to budget, save, and pay tithing is an important factor in teaching family culture.  This was such an amazing talk!
I hope that these thoughts along with the FHE lessonattached will help each of you to establish and build upon your family
cultures.  - Chatter Bird Dede

AGCS: Elder M. Russell Ballard

Come join in on the fun at the After General Conference Soiree, starts Friday, October 12th!!

The long awaited time has finally come!! The beginning of the studying and sharing our thoughts from this amazing General Conference. If you'd like to participate just comment below or for more information go to the link above.

Here's a few things that stuck out to me from his talk:

"great things are brought about and burdens are lightened through the efforts of many hands “anxiously engaged in a good cause”.

"Imagine what the millions of Latter-day Saints could accomplish in the world if we functioned like a beehive in our focused, concentrated commitment to the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ."

"Imagine what good we can do in the world if we all join together, united as followers of Christ, anxiously and busily responding to the needs of others and serving those around us—our families, our friends, our neighbors, our fellow citizens."

"What would be the cumulative effect of millions of small, compassionate acts performed daily by us because of our   heartfelt Christian love for others?"

"There is power in our love for God and for His children, and when that love is tangibly manifest in millions of acts of Christian kindness, it will sweeten and nourish the world with the life-sustaining nectar of faith, hope, and charity."

"But are our minds and our hearts just as anxiously engaged in good things during the rest of the week? Do we just go through the motions, or are we truly converted to the gospel of Jesus Christ? "

"That simple practice is: In your morning prayer each new day, ask Heavenly Father to guide you to recognize an opportunity to serve one of His precious children. Then go throughout the day with your heart full of faith and love, looking for someone to help. Stay focused, just like the honeybees focus on the flowers from which to gather nectar and pollen. If you do this, your spiritual sensitivities will be enlarged and you will discover opportunities to serve that you never before realized were possible. "

"And remember, like the little honeybee’s one-twelfth teaspoon of honey provided to the hive, if we multiply our efforts by tens of thousands, even millions of prayerful efforts to share God’s love for His children through Christian service, there will be a compounding effect of good that will bring the Light of Christ to this ever-darkening world. Bound together, we will bring love and compassion to our own family and to the lonely, the poor, the broken, and to those of our Heavenly Father’s children who are searching for truth and peace."

As he was speaking, I was thinking of bees and how annoying they are... I was thinking of what the world would be like if each of us did a meaningful service each day. Would we have to lock our doors? Would we have want to watch the news because it was full of the good deeds in the world. Would we have to worry about whether or not to let our kids walk to school? Can you imagine such a world? Today's world is so terrifying. We hear of murders, kidnapping, and plenty of others, but rarely can we turn on the news and hear something so amazing that you just get warm fuzzies all over.
I love how he compared service to a honeybee, how true that is! They work tirelessly in their short little lives to bring something small to their hive. I thought about how in comparison, our own lives aren't that long either, in the big picture of things, but while on Earth, our life seems so long, and yet, I don't do as much service as I could be doing. Some months I don't get Visiting Teaching done or my friend is sick and I thought about taking her soup but then the excuses come crashing down. How can I pollinate the world, my tiny corner of it? How can I contribute? I think firstly, my family, I need to be a little better at serving my husband, I need to be a little better at Visiting Teaching, etc.... I have a small portion but as Elder Ballard said, if we each took our small portions and add them up it'll make the world a better place in these darker changing times and will become darker in the future.

Here's the link for the Secret Service idea... you could easily convert it to work for your own family.
I love this quote from President Uchtdorf!

I'll be adding another activity the beginning of next week!

Now it's your turn.... please share your thoughts, feelings, etc about this talk. I apologize that it has to be approved before posting; however, I feel that is the safest way to monitor what is being said and no spam is added.
