AGCS: Linda S. Reeves

For the weeks where there will be 2 talks, one will be posted on Friday the other on the following Wednesday. For the Prophet and Counselors (3 talks), one will be posted on Friday, one on Monday, the last on Wednesday. I hope that all works for everyone!

For the General Relief Society Meeting, every year I go down to Salt Lake and spend the whole day with my Grandma and Aunts, it's like Christmas with all the memories and fun that we have and I look forward to it every year. For this one, we went to the stake center, for this talk, I was found fidgeting, as I was listening to it, it felt like she was talking about death or losing a child, etc and I had not experienced that so I brushed it aside... but then... I read this amazing talk! Reading it and reading it.... I feel like the main message for me and what will be the basis for the FHE is:

"our Heavenly Father and our Savior, Jesus Christ, know us and love us. They know when we are in pain or suffering in any way. They do not say, “It’s OK that you’re in pain right now because soon everything is going to be all right." They feel the depth of our suffering, and we can feel of Their love and compassion in our suffering."

If you are not familiar with the song "My Heavenly Father Loves Me", you can print it HERE.... along the left side, the 3rd option- Print Song.

November Sharing Time WK 2

Come join in on the fun at the After General Conference Soiree, Sister Ann M. Dibb is up!

I can be a missionary by setting a good example.

Last month when I did the Sharing Time handouts for November, I skipped Week 2, not knowing what I would give as an idea. Let me first share something with you...
I love this blog, it allows me to bring out my creative side, but it also keeps me listening for promptings. I feel this little blog in the big wide world is a calling and when I ask for help, and am willing to listen, the most amazing things are created and this week is an example of such a prompting.
For this week, I have an object lesson for you...

Materials you will need:
2 clear plastic cups
Sand/Dirt
Glue
Candy (anything small will do, M&Ms, Skittles, etc)
Cookie Sheet
Chalk/Eraser

Preparation at home:
Using the cookie sheet as a "catcher", on one of the cups on the outside and on the inside, use the glue and put a layer on both. Then take your sand/dirt and put it over the glue on both sides, and do the "shaking" off and out of the cup. (you know those kids creations where they put the glue down and then use glitter than shake it off?- see picture) then let dry.

At Church:
Pour some candy (for Senior Primary maybe have something "wetter" so that they can really see the dirt on the "treat) into each cup and set them out where the kids to see. On the blackboard have two signs or writeL Good and Bad
Ask them which they would rather eat... the dirty cup or the clean cup?

Explain that our friends, neighbors, teachers, etc watch us each day, some may know that we are members and others may not. And each day we have a choice to make how we will set an example to them. We can keep our lives dirty or clean, just like these cups, we may have something good to share (the candy) but if we are setting a bad example, but we have something good to share, those around may not want to drink out of our dirty cups. But as we keep our lives clean (show the clean cup) we will be setting a good example to those around us without even trying. Ask: What are ways that we can keep our lives clean so that we always set a good example? (Write their ideas on the board - read scriptures, go to church, etc) and discuss a few of them and why they are good. What are some bad things that some may to do to dirty our lives? (Write ideas on the board- swear, bully, etc)
Ask which do you think is better to help others want to follow and be more like Jesus. Let the kids answer. then read this scripture: Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:16

(right click and save for the coloring page)

I love the scripture videos, it quite literally makes all the heroes come to LIFE!!! I use them often in my Primary class by downloading them and  taking in my Nook. The kids love them!
If you would like to and there's time, here's videos from LDS.org for the scripture characters that the outline suggested. To download each:
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego - video 2:14
Daniel and His Friends - video 1:35
Daniel and the Lion's Den - video 1:58

From the Readers:
Rachel- If anyone is a week behind (we've been having Sacrament Program practice) feel free to use the video file I created. It has three scripture videos, a few correlating questions, and the missionary photos at the end of it.

{Sponsor} 25 Days of Christ

Come join in on the fun at the After General Conference Soiree, Sister Ann M. Dibb is up now!

I have thought long and hard about this, praying that I would know what I needed to do for both you as my readers and for myself and my family. I know that some of you may not be interested or some may never come back, but I've decided to begin allowing sponsors, putting their buttons (there will not be anything blinking at you).
If you are interested please contact me at Latter-day Chatter.... you can promote your own blog if you would like to. Each will be family friendly and approved by me.

Our first sponsor....is 25 Days of Christ!!! I'm very excited to begin with such an amazing sponsor. This is actually a family who started this in 2008, I believe they were truly inspired!

I actually received this in the mail, and let me tell you I'm excited to begin such an amazing tradition. Each piece comes unpainted, so I will be letting my boys paint them the Family Home Evening after Thanksgiving, they may not look like those in the pictures, but that's the point I think to make them my own, I can imagine doing this years down the road and saying that "the boys painted those" I really am looking forward to them doing it to make it their own. The pieces are quality, it comes with a big booklet of instructions and each pieces "meaning". It looks like an amazing tradition to start, filled with Christ, the whole reason for the season! Be sure to check out 25 Days of Christ!

NOTE: Apparently, the kits are sold out for this year, I'll contact them and see if they will put up a waiting list or something for those of you interested.
10/29/12: Kati contacted me (she's so on the ball) and let me know for those interested, they won't have any kits this year however if you're interested to can get on the waiting list for when they become available again and a special discount. You can email them at newtraditioncrafts@gmail.com (please note that I do not know anything about the waiting list and can't put you on it.... you MUST email newtraditioncrafts@gmail.com to get on the waiting list for the special discount)

Piquing My Pinterest #12

Come join in on the fun at the After General Conference Soiree, Sister Ann M. Dibb is up now!

This week is all about Food Storage and Emergency Preparedness. If you have been keeping track of the news, you'll know that there is a huge hybrid storm coming to the North Eastern part of the United States. There has been a tsunami in Hawaii and others around the world, it's always a great way to look at and think, "if that happened to me would I be prepared?"

For those affected in the natural disasters, may you and your families be kept safe!

There is a page on the blog called Project Noah that has ( and the list will continue to grow) links to Food Storage and Emergency Preparedness, if you have any ideas, don't hesitate to comment!

365 Jars of Food Storage
there is no website however this is what is written:
There is a book available at Sam’s Club called “Gifts in a Jar – Chilis and Soups” that I purchased and take the recipes from. There are actually two others as well, “Muffins and Scones” and “Cookies and Bars.” All of them are incredibly yummy – my four children and husband like them. Plus, you can go to www.recipegoldmine.com and find others. Look under “Gifts in a Jar.” It’s such an easy way to build a year’s supply of meals like we have been told to do. The photo is of my pantry in the kitchen – 365 jars fit nicely!

AGCS: Sister Ann M. Dibb

This week is actually Dede again!!

NOTE: These are Dede's own thoughts and are not to be construed as doctrine of the Church, if you would like to learn more about the Church, please go to Mormon.org, or email me (latterdaychatter@yahoo.com) and I'd be happy to answer questions!

I really loved this talk.  Several years ago, I started a new job that required I work graveyards with two other people.  My first night on the shift, one of the men I worked with said to me that he was really glad to have me on the shift.  I said thank you and went about my work.  A few minutes later the same gentleman said to me "The only reason we wouldn't want you on this shift is if you were a Mormon."  I was in the middle of drinking some water and just shrugged and turned away. I am embarrassed to say that I didn't proclaim "I am a Mormon. I know it, I live it, I love it!"  I have thought about that situation many times, and how much better I could have handled it.  I am proud to say that I am now older, wiser, and stronger in my testimony.  I would love to have a t-shirt that proudly declares "I am a Mormon."  Since I don't have a t-shirt, I will have to make just as strong a declaration by my actions, and the example I set for those around me.  I hope this FHE lesson will help each of you with just that!   Enjoy.  Dede

AGCS Week 2: Elder L. Tom Perry

Another week has gone since we have heard our dear Prophet and Apostles teach us, guide us, and direct us. But no need to fret, we're hear to discuss, share our thoughts, and snag an amazing FHE. This week, one of my Chatter Birds, has taken the reins for this talk. Welcome Dede!

NOTE: These are Dede's own thoughts and are not to be construed as doctrine of the Church, if you would like to learn more about the Church, please go to Mormon.org, or email me (latterdaychatter@yahoo.com) and I'd be happy to answer questions!

I was really inspired by several point in Elder Perry's talk.  While I chose to focus on the "Family Culture" aspect for this FHE lesson, I also really loved his five points for parents to use in creating stronger family cultures.  First, I believe that his instruction to "pray in earnest that Heavenly Father will help you to love, understand, and guide the children He has sent you" is truly inspired.  Of course we love our children, indiscriminately and  irrevocably.  But, do we truly understand them?  When children go astray, or begin to wander off the straight and narrow path, parents can and do pray to know what to do or how to do it, but praying to understand why our kids are doing these things can and will lead to even greater love and make it that much easier to guide them. Second, we have all heard that it is important to have meals together.  This seems to be such a foreign concept in many homes, but it can make such a difference. I especially love Elder Perry's further instruction to use dinner time as a time of communication and teaching of family values.  My children seem to come alive at the dinner table.  Everyone is sitting, relaxed, hopefully enjoying their meal; it gives each member of the family a chance to express themselves to everyone all at once.  It's a natural teaching place, as everyone is facing each other, can see each other's faces. Feeding someone is an act of love, so it is only natural to spend time nourishing their brains and spirits at the same time! Third, Elder Perry encourages parents to communicate with your children's church teachers and leaders.  These leaders have been called of God and set apart specifically to teach your children.  That calling entitles them to revelation about what is best for their class, including your kid!  Isn't it amazing that our loving Heavenly Father has worked out this network of leaders so that no one is ever on their own? Visiting and Home Teachers, Auxiliary presidencies, Bishoprics, etc are all available and willing to help us as parents. Fourth, Elder Perry encourages us to share our testimonies often with our children.  I know that for many, the idea of getting up to bear your testimony in Sacrament meeting is daunting at best.  But our children need to hear us stand and say what we believe in.  This does not have to be in a formal setting, we can and should bear our testimonies at home during FHE, at family meetings, or whenever the spirit moves us. Teach your children to not be afraid to declare what they believe in. Finally, Elder Perry teaches us that families should be organized based on clear simple family rules and expectations.  Children can not behave in the manner that is expected of them, if they do not understand what that is.  Rules need to be clear and concise, with reasonable consequences. The fulfillment of responsibilities needs to result in reasonable rewards. These rewards need not always be monetary, however establishing an allowance and teaching children to budget, save, and pay tithing is an important factor in teaching family culture.  This was such an amazing talk!
I hope that these thoughts along with the FHE lessonattached will help each of you to establish and build upon your family
cultures.  - Chatter Bird Dede

Project Noah: Carseat Info

Come join in on the fun at the After General Conference Soiree, starts Friday, October 12th!!

Last night my Relief Society had an Emergency Preparedness Night and we were talking about how if we were unconscious how to relay our information. That got me thinking about my boys... what about them? If we were in an accident or they were with someone else, how would emergency personnel know who they were, who they belonged to, etc. So I came up with this:

Name: I gave my boys' full names and their "nickname"
Date of Birth: Included the year and their age (who wants to do the math in an accident/disaster)
Address: Gave full address including zipcode
Phone: Cell phone/Home phone/Work phone numbers would all be important here.
Parents: To identify whose your kid and vice versa
Emergency Contact: Their full name and their relationship to the child and their phone number(s)
Pediatrician: Their name, preferred hospital, and phone number.
Allergies: Any known allergies
Medical Conditions: obvious I think

These really aren't all that fancy, but I believe very important. Little kids will be scaried out their minds talking to these people why not have their carseat talk for them.
I'll be putting these on both sides of each carseat. Printed on bright colored paper so as not to be missed
You can print these on sticker paper or simply print on regular paper and then using packaging tape to secure it to the carseat :)

Best for you

Come join in on the fun at the After General Conference Soiree, starts Friday, October 12th!!

I ran across this quote from Elder Scott while I was indexing for the Friend, I just couldn't not do a printable for it. I love this quote!

“God will not always reward you immediately according to your desires. Rather, God will respond with what in His eternal plan is best for you.”

Facebook: Interest List

I posted this over on Facebook but I thought that I'd write up a post to help if you are wanting to start following on Facebook for Latter-day Chatter or for any of your pages...

According to Facebook, if you want to keep seeing updates from Latter-day Chatter you will need to add us to an "interest list". I apologize that there's one more thing you have to do, but it is what it is and ultimately it will make your Facebook experience more organized. To keep seeing my new posts and exclusive freebies, here's what you need to do:

In the drop-down settings menu

under the cover photo select "ADD TO INTEREST LISTS", and then create an interest list category (such as "Church"). You will then have a tab on your home page which you can click on where all Church-associated pages you've put in that category are grouped together. When you select that interest list you will see all of our posts and you won't miss anything important.

I recommend that you follow the above instructions for any Facebook page you care about, so you can continue seeing posts from the pages you love.

I was asked to give a little more instruction on how to do this so I did :) Hope this helps! And thanks to all those who are following on Facebook and to those of you who come here often, it really just makes my day!
