{Sharing Time} May Week 2

With 5 weeks this month, I hope some of you might be able to use this! I forgot to publish before I went off for the weekend.

Encourage understanding: Gather pictures of events from the Restoration of the Church. Divide the sentence “Joseph Smith is the prophet of the Restoration” into as many sections as you have pictures, and prepare a wordstrip for each word or phrase (see example). Divide the children into groups, and give each group one of the wordstrips, a picture, and a scripture reference that describes what is happening in the picture. Ask the children to read the scriptures and discuss what is happening in the picture. Then have each group share their story with the rest of the Primary. Discuss Joseph Smith’s role in each event, and have the children think about how the event has affected or can affect their lives. Place each picture and wordstrip on the board in order. After all of the wordstrips are on the board, read the sentence together.

When Jesus Christ was on the earth He taught His gospel. He taught faith, repentance, baptism by immersion, and the gift of the Holy Ghost. He gave His Apostles His authority, which is the priesthood of God. The Church of Jesus Christ was on the earth. After Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection, His Apostles went forth to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, but many people rejected them. The Church of Jesus Christ and the priesthood were taken from the earth for hundreds of years. In 1820, young Joseph Smith was reading in James in the New Testament. He read, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God” (James 1:5). Joseph wanted to know which church to join. He decided to do what the scripture said. Joseph went to a grove of trees one spring morning and knelt in prayer to ask of God. As he was praying, a bright light descended. In that light stood two glorious heavenly beings: Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. Joseph asked Them which church he should join.
Jesus Christ told Joseph to join none of the churches. Three years later, Joseph was visited by the angel Moroni, who taught him about the Book of Mormon and showed him where the golden plates were buried. John the Baptist and the Apostles Peter, James, and John came to earth to ordain Joseph Smith to the priesthood of God. The priesthood was once again on the earth. The true Church was restored—or brought back—to the earth. We are blessed to have the restored Church on the earth. (source)

The outline idea is a perfect way to engage the Senior Primary. Maybe add some sticky darts to make it a touch more engaging and you're good to go. You could also do a matching game or a matching halves. You can download all the GAK pictures here.

But for the younger kiddos, I found this fun "Seek and Find" of Joseph Smith in the Friend and I thought it would be perfect so I blew it up for all the kids to see and have created a b/w version for cheaper printing.
As the kids find each item you can talk about each and how it attributed to the restoration of the Church and how Joseph Smith played a part.

You'll be searching for:
Gold plates (the word of the Lord)
Kirtland Temple (temple work)
Sacrament tray (remembering Jesus Christ)
 Missionary name tag (missionary work)
Baptismal font (covenanting with the Lord)
Keys (the priesthood)
Dove (the Holy Ghost)

Engineering Print (18x24)

July Sharing Time WK 1

The one year birthday of Etsy is this Friday and to celebrate, we're going to have a day full of sales!! These will be announced on Facebook only. I will be sharing what each of the sales will be tomorrow (Thursday) so you'll know which ones you want.

Lesson:
While Christ was on the Earth, He established His Church, He called and ordained the 12 Apostles and gave them the priesthood to act in Christ's name and build His Church. After Christ was crucified and resurrected, the Apostles tried hard to keep the Church as Jesus taught them, but they were killed. Soon the full truth of the gospel left the Earth, this is called the Dark Ages, however there were many truths that stayed and other churches were formed. It wasn't until the year 1820, when Joseph Smith's prayer was answered and the fullness of the gospel was restored.

When his family lived in Palmyra, NY, many different religions came and taught the people, Joseph Smith studied each religion and looked for answers to his questions in the scriptures. While reading in the book of James, he came across a scripture that said that if you have a question, ask the Lord and that's just what Joseph did. He went into the grove of trees by his home, it was there that he saw Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. He was told that the churches were wrong and to not join any of them. Through several years, he received visits from other heavenly messengers and learned that he was to restore the fullness of the gospel back to the earth.

Joseph Smith was the first prophet and President of the Church, he translated the Book of Mormon, built the first temple in the latter days and received most of the revelations given the the Doctrine & Covenants.

Play a matching game using different items to represent what happened during the restoration of the Church. Explain how the Church is Christ's Church and not Joseph Smith's. It is the same Church that Jesus Himself organized and the same that He continues to lead.

Here's a matching game to play about the Restoration and Joseph Smith. Also included is an explanation of why the name of the Church is the way it is. For Senior Primary, prepare questions about the Restoration that can be found in the scriptures or that are just interesting to know when they get a match.
Purchase also includes (6) cut-outs to retell the story of Joseph Smith and the First Vision

(includes lesson from above)

Thank you so much for stopping by, for the pins and repins, for the comments, for the purchasing on Etsy. This blog has helped me find who I am, my family and my talents. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me latterdaychatter@hotmail.com

Primary 5, Lesson 10 &11

Thank you all so much for your comments and emails concerning my health and my sweet little family. We are doing well and have survived midterms and spring break. Right along with illnesses and the getting ready for planting and spring, Yippeee! Can you believe it! I was so excited when I saw little blades of grass popping up and the little tulips making head way.

I have to say that I just love this age, they are so enthusiastic to learn about the Gospel, throw a game in there and you'l have 13 kids scrambling to come up and play a "preschooler" game

I"ve combined this week and last week. Here's Lesson 10 journal.

(We played "Don't Break the Ice) Sorry I don't have the questions I used, my 2 year old decided that it woudl be super fun to push my computer off my bed while I was working on them (didn't save) so now I have a dead laptop. Yippee for 2 year olds!

2/16/17: Dropbox has changed the way that we can share files, therefore, all the links from these Primary 5 lessons currently do not work. I am in the process of fixing them.

Lesson 11

I haven't decided what game to bring but I think Trouble will be it so I can break the kids up into smaller groups. (whatever the bubble says go add 2-4 spaces so you can get more of the game done) I'll be using the chalkboard to go through the accounts/scriptures and what not so that we've gone over everything. This has helped the kids a lot with really applying what they know. I've asked some stuff for a challenge from the previous week or just random questions about the Book of Mormon and they get it right. It just touches my heart to have "my kids" know what they are really learning.

The library is an amazing resource, I'll be asking our librarian to snag to copies of the pictures indicated and have a "race" to see which "team" can think of what's next.

\

There are 7 questions a little less than normal but I want to leave time for the Enrichment 3 activity.

Primary 5, Lesson 7

Well I've been to the doctors' office, I've been scoped and now have a diagnosis well sort of. I'm not going to die or anything. But it wasn't fantastic news. I'll be on medication for the rest of my life and am on a strict diet and can't eat the "good" stuff. And so now I've experienced a ton of weight loss because I can hardly eat anything. I may possibly need surgery for my esophagus which would possibly in the end make my stomach smaller. But I"m still having a ton of pain so that's not fun at all, we'll be going in again in a couple weeks to hopefully get to the bottom of the pain. The last thing I want is to be on pain killers the rest of my life along with the medication.

I apologize I don't have the PDF and Words right now, but I should soon.
