{CTR} Primary 2, Lesson 17

LDS.org Primary 2, Lesson 17: The Priesthood Helps Me

I thought it could be fun to learn about the different responsibilities of each office of the Priesthood. Here's a fun printable chart to help the kids visualize and all are color coded for easy matching.

Have all of these laid out on the floor or the table. Using the pictures from the lesson discuss where and when each of the pictures can be done and which Priesthood can perform each.
*On your printer settings make sure that you uncheck the"fit to page" if you keep it check-marked it prints a lot smaller than you need it.

I've printed and laminated it for durability it is THE perfect size for kids to move around and learn. We're adding this one to our FHE pile!

{CTR} Primary 2, Lesson 16

Heavenly Father and Jesus love every person who asks to be healed, but sometimes people are not healed even when they are administered to. Some are not healed because Heavenly Father knows they can become stronger people by learning to live with their sickness or disability. Others are not healed because it is the right time for them to die and go back to Heavenly Father. We must have faith that Heavenly Father knows the best answer to each prayer.

(includes a full sheet, sheet of 2 and sheet of 4)
Thank you to Susan Fitch for her designs!

July Sharing Time WK 2

I am  very excited for this week's Sharing Time. In our ward we have a little girl who comes with her grandparents and is in the 7-8 class and baptism is talked about a lot because all of them are getting/have been baptized. Naturally she is scared to death because of the description of what happens by the kids. I mean come on getting held under water in a warm "tub" would scare any 7 year old who didn't know what was happening. So... with this being said I am doing this lesson just for her and I'm sure a nice review of the importance of baptism will help the other kids too, but it's really for all for Avery!

(This is all included in the download below!)

Materials Needed:
Printouts
A Punch Box  I'll take pictures of mine but warning it will not look like Sheena's!
Tacks/Tape/Magnets
Squirt bottle with water

This is much like Jeopardy but without the topics or the points --- okay so nothing like Jeopardy--- the kids come up and pick a  turned over question about baptism/confirmation then answer/punch out the coordinating number to the question to get the answer and a small treat (our Primary rarely does treats so I think it'll be a nice change to get a treat this week of  Dum-Dum suckers)

I think I will pick the order of questions so that it flows and so I don't answer one of the questions while discussing the answer. For the graphics included, I'm going to include an extra treat with that answer and see if they can tell me something else about the picture (sacrament and Jesus being baptized)

Get a volunteer who is under 8 and "baptize" them by squirting them/sprinkling water. Then ask is that right? (No.) Are we missing some things? Today we will be learning all about baptism.

Have a child come up and pick your number 1 (or do it random) from the board. Read/have them read the question and see if the child knows the answer, then let them punch out the number, get their treat and the answer, discuss if wanted.

When the kids choose the:

Who baptizes- Young men who are Priests can baptize but they can't give the gift of the Holy Ghost.

How are we baptized- The Priesthood holder takes our right hand by the wrist and raises his right hand to make a square, he then says a prayer, we hold our nose and we are dipped under for just a second or two while 2 witnesses make sure we are completely under the water.  Why are we baptized by immersion? (it is a symbol of death and resurrection, just like Christ died and was resurrected so will we)

Why do we need to baptized. In John 3:5, Jesus says that we can't enter into the kingdom of God without being baptized. What is the kingdom of God? (after we die, we can live with God again)

Promises do we make - These promises are called covenants, we covenant with Heavenly Father that 1) take upon ourselves the name of Christ, 2) keep the commandments, 3) Serve the Lord. And in return Heavenly Father makes promises to us.

.How do we renew- Through partaking of the sacrament we renew our covenants
(Picture (extra) ---  sacrament--- the bread represents the body of Christ, the water, the blood of Christ.)

How do we receive the Holy Ghost - The gift of the Holy Ghost is given to us by the laying on of hands. Men holding the Melchizedek Priesthood (not a priest) will lay their hands on your hand (just like in a blessing) and give you the gift of the Holy Ghost. The baptism is only complete when we have been confirmed, we are then a new member of the Church.

Whose example- Jesus Christ, it is through Christ that we are forgiven of our sins and live with God again. Jesus spent His life teaching us how we should try to live. Jesus was perfect and because He was perfect He didn't have to be baptized but He was baptized as an example for us to follow.
(Picture (extra)--- Jesus being baptized---- Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist in the Jordan River)

After you have finished the punch box, go back and ask what was missing when I "baptized" .....
1) I didn't have the priesthood.
2) ..... wasn't baptized by immersion
3)..... isn't 8 yet!

By being baptized, we show God that we are willing to be obedient to His commandments.

(includes the answers to the 10 questions, the pictures for the "extras" the lesson and instructions from above, numbers 1-10, and the 10 questions)

July Sharing Time Week 3

PLEASE REMEMBER THESE IDEAS ARE ONLY TO SPARK IDEAS FOR YOU, THIS IS NOT A COMPLETE LESSON AS ONLY YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR PRIMARY NEEDS TO HEAR. BE MINDFUL OF YOUR PRIMARY, PRAY ABOUT YOUR LESSON, AND YOU WILL GET HELP IN PREPARING.

For this week I have two ideas for you to choose from! I don't know where these came from (okay I do) but I love them!
 Toothpick and gumdrop bridge
Materials needed:
-Paper cup with string threaded through the top
like this, except you'll be tying the ends to your completed triangle bridge

-Marbles just enough to fill the cup you have
-Toothpicks (enough for Primary groups)
-Gumdrops (enough for Primary groups)

First and foremost, you're going to be building a bridge with toothpicks and gumdrops. you'll want to build it using triangles, it doesn't matter the length it's the point that matters (LOL pun not intended - you'll get it in just a sec). When pressure is applied to the square or the circle bridge they will collapse but with the triangle bridge it will stay steady and be able to hold more weight than you'd think (let the kids know this after they try making theirs. Some will just use squares and other may try other shapes.  Don't get rid of these, you'll want to take them to church to show the kids after their part is done.

Separate the Primary into groups (however you'd like, I think the easiest is by classes but that's my opinion)

Here's a videos showing why the triangle is the best shape, you can start watching about 2:50 in the video for the "reason" if you want to talk to your kiddos about that part of it. And this is a great instruction on putting them together.

Thank you to Nicole for "practicing" on how to make these! For yours to be able to hold more weight back sure that you reinforce it really well with more toothpicks to demonstrate how strong the Priesthood is in helping us,

At the beginning put the question below up on the board and read it out loud. (this would be where the pictures from the sharing time manual can come in)

DOWNLOAD "HOW CAN" HERE
DOWNLOAD PDF (coming soon)

The Priesthood strengthens us and our families much like the triangle bridge because the Priesthood is the power of God on Earth and as we use the Priesthood in our lives "we can become stronger, our talents and ability can be magnified and multiplied, our understanding can be greatly enlarged, and our spirituality can flower." (President James E. Faust)

What can happen if we don't have the Priesthood and aren't strong and sturdy? (if you see one of the groups with a "flimsy" bridge demonstrate it on their bridge by attaching one of the cups underneath hanging by the string and begin filling it with marbles until it collapses (it shouldn't take long). When are are going through tough things in our lives (bullying, classes, etc) we can ask for a blessing and it is through the Priesthood that we are given words that the Lord would want us to hear.

What happens when we have the strength of the Priesthood? (use yours or another of the kids' that you know is sturdy) and begin the marble part again.

Ideas are just flowing for this week so here's another idea!!

The Priesthood and Family Mobile

Grab the printable from week 1 with family cut-outs. You'll be making a mobile with them. Thank you so much to Chatter Bird, Becky, for her craftiness and pictures of how to assemble and how it looks at the end!

You can download how to make the mobile HERE, thank you Becky for the How to and pictures!

Materials needed:
-Printouts - it'd work best to print the Priesthood one on cardstock
-Scissors
-String/Twine/Fishing Line
-1-3 Straws (disposable is fine)

DOWNLOAD MOBILE PRIESTHOOD PIECE HERE
DOWNLOAD PDF (coming soon)

Put this up on the board after you ask what would happen if we took the Priesthood out of the mobile.
DOWNLOAD THE PRIESTHOOD HERE
DOWNLOAD PDF (coming soon)

For this idea, show the kids the mobile and ask what would happen if we cut the Priesthood out? (be ready to cut the string about the Priesthood circle. Let the kids answer then cut the string ABOVE the circle.
What blessings would our families miss out on if we didn't have the Priesthood?
(intro pictures suggested in sharing time manual)

Primary 5, Lesson 8 & Journal

I'm pulling out the bowling pins again for this lesson, I've included all the questions on each of the pins.
The kids will be bowling one at a time, then they choose a question from the pins that they knocked down. There are a few extras so for the first few I'll have the kids who picked tape the next question onto it so it won't disrupt the class with me having to do them. I'm first going to be going through the "Scriptural and Historical Accounts" and then play the game so that all the "answers" have already been given they just had to have listened.
On the board, I'll also have this question from the lesson by the 2 pictures suggested in the lesson. "What are some important things priesthood holders do with their hands when they are using their priesthood power?" so that they can think about it and we can then discuss it.

2/16/17: Dropbox has changed the way that we can share files, therefore, all the links from these Primary 5 lessons currently do not work. I am in the process of fixing them.

October Sharing Time WK 3

Come join in on the fun at the After General Conference Soiree, starts Friday, October 13th!!

I love the idea of using hands, for this you'll need one of the hand printouts for each child.... give them a few minutes to write down their name (instructions in outline) then instead of inviting them up... after they have written their name (or the teachers have) have the kids crumple up their hands... then on the count of 3 throw up to the front... they'll have a blast I promise! Then you pick as many as time allows and read whose name is on the hand... ask them what blessing or ordinance they've gotten and how they felt and how it has strengthened them (read fully in outline) - if they want to share- and invite them to put on the board of pictures with tape, magnet, or pin.

(all different colors)

Pictures
Sacrament
Confirmation
Father's Blessing
Blessing Sick
Priesthood Blessing ( I include because some children may not have a father/grandfather to give father's blessings, but can still receive a blessing)
Baptism

I couldn't find a baby blessing, however Google Images comes up with a lot, but for privacy, copyrights, I'm not going to post any, but for your Primary, I'm sure you could snag one just to show without sharing at all. I love the 3rd page, 2nd row, 3rd from the left.. DARLING!

October Sharing Time WK 2

Getting ready for General Conference? Come check out THIS linky party and ideas!
Come join in on the fun at the After General Conference Soiree, starts Friday, October 13th!!

I love the idea of puzzles from the outline and having the kids tell you what they think it means, instead of you telling them.... letting them share with you what they know and have learned in their young lives :)
