December Sharing Time WK 2

This picture can be found in Primary 2, picture 10 (2-10) or you can download it HERE.

I love how this picture can put the real thing into something tangible to the kids that Jesus was more like them then they may think.

With this picture you can play a "matching game" by printing out 2. In one you could cut out the items that the questions below are highlighting and as you explain what it may have been used for you could have a child "I Spy" to the one up on the board (not cut).

In the lesson that corresponds with the picture. It suggests asking questions about what they see in the picture.

  • Where do you think the family slept? (Point out the mat the woman is putting away and the closet behind her that seems to hold other rolled mats. Explain that the roofs of the houses were flat, and steps on the outside of each house led up to the roof. Perhaps the children sometimes slept on the roof.)
  • Where did the baby in this home sleep? (Point out the cradle. Explain that Joseph was a carpenter and might have made a cradle like this one for the baby Jesus.)
  • What do you think the big jars were used for? (Some held water. All the water the family used was carried from the well in the village because there was no running water in the homes. A well is a deep hole in the ground with clean water in it.)
  • What is the woman who is sitting on the floor doing? (Grinding grain to make into bread.)
  • Since there was no electricity, how could they light this home? (They used oil lamps. Point out the lamp on the stool behind the woman grinding grain. Perhaps some of the jars held oil for the lamps.)

I love this picture of the boy Jesus teaching in the temple. You can download it HERE.

As you show this picture, you can point out that Jesus was teaching men who were much older than He was. Jesus knew that He was to do Heavenly Father's work at a very young age.

This picture is in Primary 2. (2-11) or you can download it HERE

During His childhood, Jesus was taught the scriptures, just like we are in our homes. He may have helped Joseph with his carpentry. He may have eaten foods that you eat too. Maybe not pizza or chicken nuggets but bread, fish, lamb (sheep), honey, grapes, figs(fruit), dates(fruit), and milk.

December Sharing Time WK 1

Thank you so much for all your sweet comments and emails. I do read each and it touches me so much.

I have to apologize, this week has gotten away with me. I was hoping to have the activity for this week's sharing time done last night, but it didn't happen and I only got most of it done. I'll have it done soon and maybe you can use it for Christmas at home. I was able to find a fun sharing time though for you over at Little LDS Ideas.

November Sharing WK 4

I received an ever so gentle reminder that I had yet to post the WK 4 Sharing Time, OOPS, I had thought that I had already done it, but alas I had not. I hope you can still use these ideas :)

Before you play the game, there's spaces that you can fill more ideas with how we can be missionaries now and how we can prepare to serve a mission from the kids. Asking them how they can get ready to be a missionary.
Ask some of these questions so that when the kids are asked they can have ideas if their tongues are tied....

Who is God?
Who is Jesus Christ?
Why do you go to church?
What is a prophet?
What is the Book of Mormon?
What happens to us after we die?
What is the sacrament?
Do I need to be baptized?
How can families be together forever?

The Friend has a really good game to play this week.
You can download it HERE.

November Sharing Time WK 2

Come join in on the fun at the After General Conference Soiree, Sister Ann M. Dibb is up!

I can be a missionary by setting a good example.

Last month when I did the Sharing Time handouts for November, I skipped Week 2, not knowing what I would give as an idea. Let me first share something with you...
I love this blog, it allows me to bring out my creative side, but it also keeps me listening for promptings. I feel this little blog in the big wide world is a calling and when I ask for help, and am willing to listen, the most amazing things are created and this week is an example of such a prompting.
For this week, I have an object lesson for you...

Materials you will need:
2 clear plastic cups
Sand/Dirt
Glue
Candy (anything small will do, M&Ms, Skittles, etc)
Cookie Sheet
Chalk/Eraser

Preparation at home:
Using the cookie sheet as a "catcher", on one of the cups on the outside and on the inside, use the glue and put a layer on both. Then take your sand/dirt and put it over the glue on both sides, and do the "shaking" off and out of the cup. (you know those kids creations where they put the glue down and then use glitter than shake it off?- see picture) then let dry.

At Church:
Pour some candy (for Senior Primary maybe have something "wetter" so that they can really see the dirt on the "treat) into each cup and set them out where the kids to see. On the blackboard have two signs or writeL Good and Bad
Ask them which they would rather eat... the dirty cup or the clean cup?

Explain that our friends, neighbors, teachers, etc watch us each day, some may know that we are members and others may not. And each day we have a choice to make how we will set an example to them. We can keep our lives dirty or clean, just like these cups, we may have something good to share (the candy) but if we are setting a bad example, but we have something good to share, those around may not want to drink out of our dirty cups. But as we keep our lives clean (show the clean cup) we will be setting a good example to those around us without even trying. Ask: What are ways that we can keep our lives clean so that we always set a good example? (Write their ideas on the board - read scriptures, go to church, etc) and discuss a few of them and why they are good. What are some bad things that some may to do to dirty our lives? (Write ideas on the board- swear, bully, etc)
Ask which do you think is better to help others want to follow and be more like Jesus. Let the kids answer. then read this scripture: Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:16

I love the scripture videos, it quite literally makes all the heroes come to LIFE!!! I use them often in my Primary class by downloading them and  taking in my Nook. The kids love them!
If you would like to and there's time, here's videos from LDS.org for the scripture characters that the outline suggested. To download each:
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego - video 2:14
Daniel and His Friends - video 1:35
Daniel and the Lion's Den - video 1:58

From the Readers:
Rachel- If anyone is a week behind (we've been having Sacrament Program practice) feel free to use the video file I created. It has three scripture videos, a few correlating questions, and the missionary photos at the end of it.

Come join in on the fun at the After General Conference Soiree, starts Friday, October 13th!!

An idea for FHE:
Play a "Fruit Basket" game but with different ways to serve. If the "it" person calls out your service you run to the other side of the yard, living room, etc without being caught. Challenge your kids to perform their service pick during the week, and at the following FHE ask how they felt when they performed their service.

October Sharing Time Wk 4

Come join in on the fun at the After General Conference Soiree, starts Friday, October 13th!!

Love this quote from President Gordon B. Hinckley!!
“I think that vicarious work for the dead more nearly approaches the vicarious sacrifice of the Savior Himself than any other work of which I know. It is given with love, without hope of compensation, or repayment or anything of the kind. What a glorious principle.”

"It matters tremendously what we do in relation to those who have gone before, because they live today as spirits and shall live again as immortal souls, and that because of Jesus Christ."  Elder D. Todd Christoffersen

Temple Scavenger Hunt
Make sure to have a treat or surprise in the wastebasket!
DOWNLOAD HERE
(includes 13 pages)

I've been getting a lot of questions about this and how to use this, so I've decided to add to the post.
The circles with each number: These are solely for your benefit.... to keep each bag in order since they'll be kept shut and you can just place them where they need to be.
The wordstrips: These are meant as reminders for the kids and maybe for a matching game with the items if you have time. You can use them or not.
The instructions (scriptures/quotes): They are in no particular order, you can do them as they are or how the Spirit moves you to teach to your children. You can use these as you want to and in any order. Maybe Senior Primary would understand "instructions" but the Junior Primary may not. You could do Peace first, Eternal Covenants etc.
Instead of having these in/on the bag you could also keep the cards for Senior Primary to make it harder for them and have the match the item and the scripture/quote with the wordstrip
The Wastebasket: This is where you would end, with a treat or the handout and a treat inside of a box to be handed to each child.

October Sharing Time WK 3

Come join in on the fun at the After General Conference Soiree, starts Friday, October 13th!!

I love the idea of using hands, for this you'll need one of the hand printouts for each child.... give them a few minutes to write down their name (instructions in outline) then instead of inviting them up... after they have written their name (or the teachers have) have the kids crumple up their hands... then on the count of 3 throw up to the front... they'll have a blast I promise! Then you pick as many as time allows and read whose name is on the hand... ask them what blessing or ordinance they've gotten and how they felt and how it has strengthened them (read fully in outline) - if they want to share- and invite them to put on the board of pictures with tape, magnet, or pin.

(all different colors)

Pictures
Sacrament
Confirmation
Father's Blessing
Blessing Sick
Priesthood Blessing ( I include because some children may not have a father/grandfather to give father's blessings, but can still receive a blessing)
Baptism

I couldn't find a baby blessing, however Google Images comes up with a lot, but for privacy, copyrights, I'm not going to post any, but for your Primary, I'm sure you could snag one just to show without sharing at all. I love the 3rd page, 2nd row, 3rd from the left.. DARLING!

Come join in on the fun at the After General Conference Soiree, starts Friday, October 13th!!

I love the idea of puzzles from the outline and having the kids tell you what they think it means, instead of you telling them.... letting them share with you what they know and have learned in their young lives :)

October Sharing Time: WK 1

Looking for Ideas for Conference? Check these ideas out!
Come join in on the fun at the After General Conference Soiree, starts Friday, October 13th!!

From Church Magazines:
The Aaronic Priesthood: What's so Great about it? - could easily be adapted for Primary Children
I love the true story, and the question is so important... what's great about the Aaronic Priesthood, EVERYTHING! Love this article.

"What’s so great about holding the Aaronic Priesthood? Through its keys and powers, it helps us to live better lives, to be clean in our thoughts and actions, to show more love and respect to our parents and familymembers, to keep our bodies free from drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and other harmful substances. This power strengthens a young man and helps him to keep his mind and body clean and to have the courage to say no."

The Aaronic Prieshood- a Gift from God - I love President Hinckley, he speaks to the young men, giving strong testimony of the Aaronic Priesthood. Very good talk for those almost getting the Priesthood, or being reminded of how important this is for our Church.

"...for in the exercise of our priesthood, we are acting in behalf of God our Eternal Father and Jesus Christ, His Son."

September Sharing Time WK 4: Respecting Others

Getting ready for General Conference? Come check out THIS linky party and ideas!

Download cards below and write one for each child (if you have a large Primary, recruit the teachers to help) complimenting them on what they do best or how you have seen them showing respect to someone else, whether it's mowing their neighbor's lawn, helping their mom in Sacrament Meeting, erasing the chalkboard after the lesson, etc. Ask them how they felt when reading their notes.... We should always strive to help others feel that same feeling, when we show respect to them we show them that we love them.
Hand out blank ones to each of the children, asking them how they can show respect to others. You can have them share in groups or select some to be shared out loud, time permitting.

From the Friend:
Showing Respect (This is a choose which one is showing respect, excellent visuals and would be a fun game if there's extra time, for those kids that may be more visual learners-maybe those boys in the back would be willing to help :)

September Sharing Time WK 3: Honoring Parents

Getting ready for General Conference? Come check out THIS linky party and ideas!

I didn't realize how many people have loved and used the weekly sharing time cards, so I'm going to bring them back, and I hope those that have used them will forgive me for not continuing to do them.

Play a game and find out about Honoring Our Parents, I have included 6 different scenarios, some good and some bad, I've also included 2 blank cards to fill in yourself.
You could play with some numbered dice or you could play a matching game by printing off 2 or you can just have the kids come up and pick one, and then discuss.

September Sharing Time WK 1

LDS.org September Sharing Time WK 1 - We are blessed when we keep the commandments

Every time I read this lesson, I kept thinking about a Mormon ad where a cockroach is in a cake or some other type of dessert. And I thought wouldn't it be fun to build your own cupcake as you share the commandments that we have been given, that we are blessed when we obey the commandments.
And as we "build" our lives around the gospel and obey the commandments the happier we will be because we have made good choices. And of course where would we be without printables?
I've had these two goodies downloaded for some time now, my son LOVES paper piecing. Both are freebies however this one from Money Saving Mom is not in color, so you'd have to either color them, have your kids color them quickly before church or just leave it.
Or there's this AWESOME one from Vol. 25, this in full color; however, prints out just a bit smaller than other one.
To make it easy, you could also write on the pieces of cupcakes, the "good choices" in obeying the commandments are
And you'll need some bugs of course. (download below) with some of the "bad choices".
Have all the pieces lying face down on a table or up on the board and let kids start picking some out, when a  bug gets picked. Ask the kids how they woudl like to eat a yummy cupcake with bugs in it? Not good, and that's how we feel when we make bad choices we feel bad. But if we are able to partake of the blessings of the good choices and trust in Heavenly Father, we will receive many more blessed and be happy.

Not tickling your fancy? Well then... here's a few more places to check out to make your own lesson:
Jennysmith.net (these are object lessons for keeping the commandments)
The ever amazing Sugardoodle.
Here's an FHE lesson from Deseret Book but could easily be adapted.

March Week 2 Sharing Time

This last week the Elders' Quorum took over the Primary so that us sisters could go to Relief Society for a special lesson on Emergency Preparedness. My husband is the Secretary and so it came to him (via me) to do the Sharing Time. It was SO much fun doing the sharing time that I will be coming up with an idea each week for Sharing Time. For this coming week, you could play a "Guess Who" game.

February Sharing Time Cards

I have to apologize for not that many posts the last month or so... we are just so crazy with my hubby's school schedule. I have some fun news as well. I was asked by the stake to help out with a couple assignments and so I'm busy making up flyers and handouts along with ideas for a stake activity. Very time consuming but very rewarding. I'm hoping this month isn't as crazy and I can get some stuff out like I've been wanting to.
