Word Hunt

Here's a game that can be easily converted for really anything. First print out the letters (about 1 set of letters for every 2-4 players), laminate, then cut the letters out. Then hide them around a designated area. Then give everyone a bag to collect the letters. When all the letters have been found, then have each "team" make up as many words using the letters they collected, using the letters only once.
And here's the scoring:
7+ letters = 10 points
6 letters = 8 points
5 letters = 6 points
4 letters = 4 points
3 letters = 2 points
2 letters = 1 point
1 letter = 0 points
If letters aren't used -1 point for each

Lion House Fudge Cake

Lion House Sinful Fudge Cake

Ingredients:

~10 oz. (10 squares) semi-sweet chocolate or 1 3/4 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
~½ cup butter (1 stick)
~¼ cup cake flour, stirred before measuring
~½ cup sugar
~3 eggs
~½ cup whipping cream
~2 tsp. butter

Oven temperature: 400-degrees. Butter or spray with pan release a 9-inch pan (for easier removal of cake line the bottom of pan with parchment paper , spray the parchment with pan release)then dust with granulated sugar set aside. In a heavy saucepan, over medium heat, melt 4 oz. chocolate (3/4 cup if using chocolate chips) and ½ cup butter stirring constantly. Remove from heat. In a large bowl combine cake flour, sugar and eggs. Mix together until well blended. With mixer on high speed pour in the chocolate mixture. Continue beating on high for 5 minutes until batter is light in color. Scrape down sides of bowl often. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Allow to cool 10 minutes. Loosen sides with a knife. Invert onto cooling rack over a sheet of waxed paper. Allow to cool.

In a saucepan, boil whipping cream 1 minute, stirring. Remove from heat. Stir in remaining chocolate and butter. Leaving the cake on the cooling rack spread the ganuche over the top of cake spreading it to the edges and allow to it to drape over the sides (or spread it evenly on the sides if you don’t like the drape look). Allow chocolate to set 30 minutes. Using a spatula place cake on a serving plate.

Noah's Ark Flannelboard

HELLO ALL!! It's 8:45 in the morning here and my kitchen is almost complete with spring cleaning. You would be really surprised by how much gunk and junk can get underneath your fridge and stove YUCK! Anyhoo here's a flannelboard of Noah's Ark I ran across on the Church's website. You can just print it without adjusting the borders.
And here's an idea":
You can use iron-on transfers to make them look like the flannelboard parts that you purchase. Print off the cutouts on iron-on transfers (you can find them at Walmart in the office/stationary section) and get felt sheets (Joann's, Walmart, etc) and follow the directions on the transfer paper packet to iron-on the pieces to the felt, then cut out. You can also easily print it out on cardstock and laminate or you could print it on cardstock, laminate, and glue them to popsicle sticks.

Determined Women

"If there ever were a time when the Lord needed righteous, determined women who can distinguish between the adversary's deceptions and the voice of the Lord, it is now. If there were ever a time when the Lord needed women of intergrity and purity who live in the world but rise above it, it is now. If there is ever a time when the Lord needed His daughters to be alert to what is happening in society and to defend the sanctity of the home and family, it is now. If there were ever a time when the Lord needed us to have a clear vision of who we are, where we are, and what is important, it is now." Sheri Dew

Baptism Jar

Hi Guys! How do you like the new look? I've been playing around with HTML Code and such :) (If you want to know how to do anything, let me know and I'll be sure to tell you how!! How are you liking those Don't Eat the Prophet games?  Tomorrow I'm planning on doing the Primary April Theme bookmarks so look out for those too.
For now I have a baptism/Holy Ghost talk for you.
You will need:
~Mason jar (any jar will work, but about that size)
~a Quarter
~Dirt (enough to fill the jar)
~a Scooper for the dirt (the ones that come with baby formula, drink mixes, etc work great)
~Large bowl
Now for the talk....
Hold up the jar and explain that this represents the person who was just baptized. Hold up the quarter and explain that it represents the Holy Ghost and drop it in the jar and shake it. Ask the kids if they can hear the Holy Ghost. Add a scoop of dirt, while doing so give a scenario of some wrong doing (for ideas see below). Shake the jar again and ask if they can still hear the Holy Ghost. (which they should) Continue adding scoops, giving scenarios, and shaking the jar, and soon they will no longer be able to hear the Holy Ghost.
When we sin, the Holy Ghost withdraws from us and can't speak with us. Then ask the kids, how we can hear the Holy Ghost again, then talk about repentance and the atonement. And dump the dirt into the bowl and put the quarter back in. Explain that the jar is still dirty because even though Heavenly Father has forgiven us, we will still to able to remember the mistakes we make so that we don't do them again. As a little gift for the kiddo getting baptize you could have a different jar already made half filled with dirt (shake it around so that the top half is dirty), put a quarter on top of the dirt, then seal it with hot glue so that you can keep the mom's sanity and dirt isn't found around her house, haha. Then on the jar you could put this cute little handout.

Don't Eat the Prophet-Names

Okay here's the names only of the General Authorities for the game.
And this link is for the other half which includes the instructions. HAVE FUN!!

Don't Eat the Prophet- Pictures

Hi guys, I have a fun little game for you to play with your kiddos for General Conference, a FHE activity, or just learning who the General Authorities are. I'll also be doing one with just their names and then a print off of their pictures for older kids. For this game you'll need to print off enough of the game boards for your kids, then you'll need game pieces (jelly beans, M&Ms, Smarties, etc) then you can play it like Guess Who. One person thinks of the prophet or an apostle and the other people try and guess who they're are thinking of, putting the markers after they have guessed, you could also ask is he wearing glasses? Is he bald? etc.  Or if it's for conference you could think of a name and say "this man talked about..." (to make it easier and something else to do, you can download my "Taught me" sheets as well (if all 15 aren't up, they will be, don't worry)

And this is the link for the 2nd half (names only- for the older kiddos) ENJOY! Leave some love, who doesn't love love??

The Miracle

I just love the lessons that children can teach us. Grab a couple tissues for this story.

The violent grinding of brakes suddenly applied, and the harsh sound of skidding wheels gradually died away as the big car came to a stop. Eddie quickly picked himself up from the dusty pavement where he had been thrown, and looked around wildly.
Agnes! Where was his little sister he had been holding by the hand when they had started to cross the street? The next momemnt he saw her under the big car that had run them down, her eyes closed, a dark stain slowly spreading on her white face.
With one bound the boy was under the car, trying to lift the child.
"You'd better not try, son," said a man gently. "Someone has gone to telephone for an ambulance."
"She's not...dead, is she, Mister?" Eddie begged in a husky voice.
The man stooped and felt the limp little pulse. "No, my boy," he said slowly.
A policeman came up, dispersed the collecting crowd, and carried the unconscious girl into a nearby drug store. Eddie's folded coat made a pillow for her head until the ambulance arrived. He was permitted to ride in the conveyance with her to the hospital. Something about the sturdy, shabbily dressed boy. who could not be mroe than ten years old, and his devotion to his little sister, strangely touched the hearts of the hardened hospital apprentices.
"We must operate at once," said the surgeon after a brief preliminary examination. "She's been injured internally, and has lost a great deal of blood." He turned to Eddie who, inarticulate with grief, stood dumbly by. "Where do you live?" Eddie told him that their father was dead, and that his mother did day work-he didn't know where.
"We can't wait to find her," said the surgeon, "Because by that time it might be too late."
Eddied waited in the sitting room while the surgeons worked over Agnes. After what seemed an eternity a nurse sought him out.
"Eddie," she said kindly, "Your sister is very bad, and the doctor wants to make a transfusion. Do you know what that is?"Eddie shook his head. "She has lost a lot of blood she cannot live unless someone gives her his. Will you do it for her?
Eddie's wan face grew paler, and he gripped the knobs of the chair so hard that his knuckles became white. For a moment he hesitated; then gulping back his tears, he nodded his head and stood up.
"That's a good lad," said the nurse.
She patted his head, and led the way to the elevator which whisked them to the operating room-a very clearn but evil-smelling room, with pale green walls and innumerable shiny instruments in glass cases. No one spoke to Eddie except the nurse who directed him in a low voice how to prepare for the ordeal. The boy bit his quivering lip and silently obeyed.
"Are you ready?" asked a man swathed in white from head to foot, turning from the table over whihc he had been bending. For the first time Eddie noticed who it was lying there so still. Little Agnes! And he was going to make her well.
He stepped forward quickly.
Two hours later the surgeon looked up witha smile into the faces of the young interns and nurses who were engrossed in watching the great man's work.
"Fine," he said, "I think she'll pull through."
After the transfusion Eddie had been told to lie quietly on a cot in the corner of the room. In the excitement of the delicate operation he had been entirely forgotten.
"It was wonderful, Doctor!" exclaimed one of the young interns. "A miracle!" Nothing, he felt in his enthusiastic recognition of the marvels of surgery, could be greater than the miracles of science.
"I am well satisfied," said the surgeon with conscious pride.
There was a tug at the sleeve, but he didn't notice. In a little while there was another tug- this time more peremptory- and the great surgeon glanced down to see a ragged, pale faced boy looking steadily up into his face.
"Say, Doctor," said a husky voice, "When do I die?"
The interns laughed and the great surgeon smile. "Why, what do you mean, my boy?" he asked kindly.
"I thought...when they took a guy's blood... he died." muttered Eddie.
The smiles faded from the lips of doctors and nurses, and the young intern who had thought there was nothing greater than the miracle of science, caught his breath suddenly.
GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS, THAT HE LAY DOWN HIS LIFE!
This ragged lad had climbed to the very height of nobility and sacrifice, and showed them a glimpse of the greatest miracle of all - a selfless love! But Eddie must never know this. The lesson was too poignantly beautiful to be wasted. The great surgeon motioned the other for silence. "I think after all you have done, you will get well, Eddie," he said gruffly. "You and little Agnes."

Lion House Taffy

LION HOUSE TAFFY

2 cups sugar
1 1/2 cups water
1 cup white corn syrup
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons glycerine (available at drugstores)
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon vanilla

Mix sugar, water, corn syrup, salt and glycerine in a heavy saucepan. Bring to a boil and cook until temperature is 258 degrees. Remove from heat and add the butter and vanilla, stirring until the butter is melted. Pour candy onto a buttered cookie sheet. Cool until lukewarm and taffy can be handled comfortably. Wash and dry hands thoroughly. Take a small piece of taffy and stretch and fold repeatedly until the taffy turns white. Form taffy into desired shape. Place on a piece of waxed paper. Makes enough taffy for 10-14 people to share.

GC Teaching: President Monson

Well, my FHE lesson went over great, and my grandma loved it so much that I gave her all my supplies for the lesson and she wants to do it for her Primary kiddos. She has the best casserole too. The recipe is in the car, so I'll get it later and post it up.
Do you remember those notebook covers I made for a request from Didi? Well this is the second half of Didi's request, and it was to make a little packet for anyone to journal down their thoughts. Here's President Monson's, I'll be doing the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve so keep your eyes peeled for those.
I have also gotten several requests for bookmarks for the April Primary theme so I'll tackle those this week.

Symbolic Easter Lesson

I'm up way early in the morning, I hate it when you're mind just keeps going and your body says stop! But I do have to admit that some of my best ideas come to me when I'm in bed trying to go to sleep, and I just can't sleep without getting those thoughts out. Here's one of them. I hope you like it and can use it, I'd love to hear how it goes with your family! I have a lesson with my extended family tomorrow (Sunday) and I wanted to do something about Easter, not the store celebration, but the real reason, Christ dying for us and then rising again. I had the main part of the lesson that I wanted to share, but I didn't know how to present it, now I do!! I'm using this as a FHE Lesson but it could easily be used on Easter as an activity to do in between sessions of General Conference to get the wiggles out and to teach about the real reason for the season.

Items you will need:
- a ton of shredded paper, Easter grass
OR if you don't want all that stuff or the mess!
You can just hide the Easter eggs around the house
-12 Easter eggs
-1 nail
-1 sacrament cup (that'd be easy to snag if have a little kid that takes too long to get it back in the tray, or you could probably ask the ward clerk, or if push comes to shove keep yours)
-3 dimes
-1 piece knotted twine
-1 piece of hand soap
-1 piece of red cloth
-1 piece of white cloth
(for the cloths if you go to Walmart and ask for 1 inch widths of each, it's a swatch so it's free - learn something new every day don't ya :)
-3 different lengths of sticks (small they need to fit in the egg)
-1 broken pot (the little ceramic pots- Michael's has them for about 70cents)
-1 stone
-1 bay leaf or cinnamon stick (I found bay leaves, at Walmart, in the spice/baking aisle, the brand that I found was Spice Islands)
-permanent marker or a piece of paper with the numbers 1-12 and tape them to the eggs or just number them so you know what number goes with what part on the page (see below)

Put each item in an egg and then either set up a spot with the grass or the shredded paper and put the eggs in there, or just hide the eggs.  (My FHE is at my grandma's house and I don't really want to pick up the mess of at least 10 kids rummaging through the mess so I'll be going early and hiding them).
Then here's a DOWNLOAD with the paper that talks about each item. Included on the page for each number there is a set of scriptures that go along with each.
Enjoy! Now I'm off to bed (9am) I hate when I can't sleep!!

Righteous Must Continue

"Daily, constantly, we choose our desires, our thoughts, and our actions whether we want  to be blessed or cursed, happy or miserable. One of the trails of life is that we do not usually receive immediately the full blessings for righteousness or the full cursing for wickedness. That it will come is certain, but ofttimes there is a waiting period that occurs.... During this testing time the righteous must continue to love God, trust in His promises, be patient, and be assured."                President Ezra Taft Benson

Logan Temple Warriors

How are you guys liking the new Easter kit? I have a new binder cover/poster for you today. It's a story about the Logan Temple and Nephite Warriors coming to protect the temple and it's records when marshals come and want access and threaten to burn the temple down. It's a great story of faith and prayer. You can frame it or it will fit in a standard binder. My favorites are the beige and green ones!
Leave a comment if you like!! I'd love to read them!

Lion House Rolls

Hi gang,
Let's give the handouts a break for bit. I'm tuckered, but I have a GREAT and YUMMY treat for you. LION HOUSE ROLLS!!! Now I can't just ship a batch over to you so here's the recipe of the famous, water-mouthing, try and never turn back rolls.

Lion House Dinner Rolls
~2 cups warm water (110-115 degrees F)
~2/3 cup nonfat dry milk *SCORE FOOD STORAGE ITEM!!
~2 TBS active dry yeast
~1/4 cup granulated sugar
~2 tsp salt
~1/3 cup butter, shortening, or margarine
~1 egg
~5-5 1/2 cups all purpose flour or bread flour
~1/2 cup butter, melted

In large bowl or electric mixer, combine water and milk powder; stir until milk dissolves. Add yeast, then sugar, salt, butter, egg, and 2 cups flour. Mix on low speed until ingredients are wet, then for 2 minutes at medium speed. Add 2 cups flour; mix on low speed until ingredients are wet, then for 2 minutes at medium speed. (Dough will be getting stiff and remaining flour may need to be mixed in by hand). Add about 1/2 cup flour and mix again, by hand or mixer. Dough should be soft, not overly sticky, and not stiff (It is not necessary to use the entire amount of flour).
Scrape dough off sides of bowl and pour about one tablespoon of vegetable oil all around sides of bowl. Turn dough over in bowl so it is covered with oil. (This helps prevent dough from drying out). Cover with plastic and allow to rise in warm place until double in size. Sprinkle cutting board or counter with flour and place dough on floured board. Roll out and cut rolls into desired shape and size. Place on greased (or parchment lined) baking pans. Let rise in warm place until rolls are double in size (about 1-1 1/2 hours).
Bake at 375 degrees F for 15-20 minutes or until browned. Brush with melted butter while hot. Makes 1 1/2-3 dozen rolls, depending on shape and size of rolls.
NOTE:You can freeze shaped rolls for later use. Simply double the amount of yeast used when making the dough. After the first rise, shape the rolls but do not rise again. Instead, place rolls on a baking sheet and immediately place in freezer. When dough is frozen solid, remove rolls from pan and place in a plastic bag, squeeze excess air out of the bag and seal. Rolls can be frozen for 3 weeks.

What Do Angels Look Like?

Like the little old lady who returned your wallet yesterday.
Like the taxi driver who told you that your eyes light up the world when you smile.
Like the small child who showed you the wonder in simple things.
Like the poor man who offered to share his lunch with you.
Like the rich man who showed you that it really is all possible, if only you believe.
Like the stranger who just happened to come along, when you had lost your way.
Like the friend who touched your hear, when you didn't think you had one.
Angels come in all sizes and shapes, all ages and skin types.
Some with freckles, some with dimples, some with wrinkles, some without.
They are hard to find when your eyes are closed, but...they are everywhere you look.. when you choose to see.
And they leave no forwarding address and ask nothing in return.
