July Sharing Time WK 2

I am  very excited for this week's Sharing Time. In our ward we have a little girl who comes with her grandparents and is in the 7-8 class and baptism is talked about a lot because all of them are getting/have been baptized. Naturally she is scared to death because of the description of what happens by the kids. I mean come on getting held under water in a warm "tub" would scare any 7 year old who didn't know what was happening. So... with this being said I am doing this lesson just for her and I'm sure a nice review of the importance of baptism will help the other kids too, but it's really for all for Avery!

(This is all included in the download below!)

Materials Needed:
Printouts
A Punch Box  I'll take pictures of mine but warning it will not look like Sheena's!
Tacks/Tape/Magnets
Squirt bottle with water

This is much like Jeopardy but without the topics or the points --- okay so nothing like Jeopardy--- the kids come up and pick a  turned over question about baptism/confirmation then answer/punch out the coordinating number to the question to get the answer and a small treat (our Primary rarely does treats so I think it'll be a nice change to get a treat this week of  Dum-Dum suckers)

I think I will pick the order of questions so that it flows and so I don't answer one of the questions while discussing the answer. For the graphics included, I'm going to include an extra treat with that answer and see if they can tell me something else about the picture (sacrament and Jesus being baptized)

Get a volunteer who is under 8 and "baptize" them by squirting them/sprinkling water. Then ask is that right? (No.) Are we missing some things? Today we will be learning all about baptism.

Have a child come up and pick your number 1 (or do it random) from the board. Read/have them read the question and see if the child knows the answer, then let them punch out the number, get their treat and the answer, discuss if wanted.

When the kids choose the:

Who baptizes- Young men who are Priests can baptize but they can't give the gift of the Holy Ghost.

How are we baptized- The Priesthood holder takes our right hand by the wrist and raises his right hand to make a square, he then says a prayer, we hold our nose and we are dipped under for just a second or two while 2 witnesses make sure we are completely under the water.  Why are we baptized by immersion? (it is a symbol of death and resurrection, just like Christ died and was resurrected so will we)

Why do we need to baptized. In John 3:5, Jesus says that we can't enter into the kingdom of God without being baptized. What is the kingdom of God? (after we die, we can live with God again)

Promises do we make - These promises are called covenants, we covenant with Heavenly Father that 1) take upon ourselves the name of Christ, 2) keep the commandments, 3) Serve the Lord. And in return Heavenly Father makes promises to us.

.How do we renew- Through partaking of the sacrament we renew our covenants
(Picture (extra) ---  sacrament--- the bread represents the body of Christ, the water, the blood of Christ.)

How do we receive the Holy Ghost - The gift of the Holy Ghost is given to us by the laying on of hands. Men holding the Melchizedek Priesthood (not a priest) will lay their hands on your hand (just like in a blessing) and give you the gift of the Holy Ghost. The baptism is only complete when we have been confirmed, we are then a new member of the Church.

Whose example- Jesus Christ, it is through Christ that we are forgiven of our sins and live with God again. Jesus spent His life teaching us how we should try to live. Jesus was perfect and because He was perfect He didn't have to be baptized but He was baptized as an example for us to follow.
(Picture (extra)--- Jesus being baptized---- Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist in the Jordan River)

After you have finished the punch box, go back and ask what was missing when I "baptized" .....
1) I didn't have the priesthood.
2) ..... wasn't baptized by immersion
3)..... isn't 8 yet!

By being baptized, we show God that we are willing to be obedient to His commandments.

(includes the answers to the 10 questions, the pictures for the "extras" the lesson and instructions from above, numbers 1-10, and the 10 questions)

July Sharing Time WK 1

The one year birthday of Etsy is this Friday and to celebrate, we're going to have a day full of sales!! These will be announced on Facebook only. I will be sharing what each of the sales will be tomorrow (Thursday) so you'll know which ones you want.

Lesson:
While Christ was on the Earth, He established His Church, He called and ordained the 12 Apostles and gave them the priesthood to act in Christ's name and build His Church. After Christ was crucified and resurrected, the Apostles tried hard to keep the Church as Jesus taught them, but they were killed. Soon the full truth of the gospel left the Earth, this is called the Dark Ages, however there were many truths that stayed and other churches were formed. It wasn't until the year 1820, when Joseph Smith's prayer was answered and the fullness of the gospel was restored.

When his family lived in Palmyra, NY, many different religions came and taught the people, Joseph Smith studied each religion and looked for answers to his questions in the scriptures. While reading in the book of James, he came across a scripture that said that if you have a question, ask the Lord and that's just what Joseph did. He went into the grove of trees by his home, it was there that he saw Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. He was told that the churches were wrong and to not join any of them. Through several years, he received visits from other heavenly messengers and learned that he was to restore the fullness of the gospel back to the earth.

Joseph Smith was the first prophet and President of the Church, he translated the Book of Mormon, built the first temple in the latter days and received most of the revelations given the the Doctrine & Covenants.

Play a matching game using different items to represent what happened during the restoration of the Church. Explain how the Church is Christ's Church and not Joseph Smith's. It is the same Church that Jesus Himself organized and the same that He continues to lead.

Here's a matching game to play about the Restoration and Joseph Smith. Also included is an explanation of why the name of the Church is the way it is. For Senior Primary, prepare questions about the Restoration that can be found in the scriptures or that are just interesting to know when they get a match.
Purchase also includes (6) cut-outs to retell the story of Joseph Smith and the First Vision

(includes lesson from above)
