{CTR} Primary 2, Lesson 30/31: I Can Be Obedient

Yes, I am creating this one for both lessons because I started doing my ideas for 30 and at water aerobics my friend mentioned that that it sounded like an idea for the next lesson. When I get home behold it is similar so I'm doing this for both lessons and you can decide how you'd like to use them.
This was actually one of the first lessons that I had when I was first put in Primary about 10 years ago!

When we are obedient, we show that we love and respect those we are obeying.

~Create a fence enclosure using craft sticks, hot glue gun, and foam board (optional- but handy)
~Bring in plastic animals (most party supply stores have them), stuffed animals, beanie babies etc.

What does this fence do? Why do we use fences? What could happen if an animal gets out of the fence?

Fences protect us and animals from the dangers that are outside of the fence. When inside the fence, it is safe. Just like the fences, Heavenly Father has given us commandments to help us choose the right and when we obey those commandments we will be kept safe from the dangers outside of the fence.

Materials Needed:
~Coloring utensils
~ pair of scissors for each child
~ Glue sticks for each child (optional)
~Construction Paper (optional)

Print out a fence and animals for each child. Let the kids cut out each and glue onto the construction paper.

{CTR} Primary 2, Lesson 29: I Can Be a Good Example

One day a group of people followed Jesus onto a hill by the sea. Jesus began teaching them how making good choices will help them to be happy. One of the things that he told them is to help teach others by setting a good example. (Read the Matthew Poster together)

How can we become examples and let our light shine?
~ We can speak with respect and by keeping our language clean and be kind with our words
~ We can serve others, be kind to those that are lonely or sick
~ We can be forgiving of others and be grateful
~ We strive to be modest in our clothes
~ We think of good thoughts
~ Listen to our parents and follow their counsel
~ Read our scriptures and study the gospel

{CTR} Primary 2, Lesson 28: I can be Kind

THE GOOD SAMARITAN
I love how in the lesson it has incorporated the map so I've enlarged it and you can get this poster printed for just a few dollars at Staples as an engineer print. What a fun way to share the story and "act" out as you tell it.

Put all the cut-outs onto popsicle sticks for easier manuvering around the map and laminate for durability.
Begin by letting the kids take turns circling all the cities that you point out in the lesson. Judea, Samaria, Jericho & Galilee. Give each child a cut-out and when they hear about their character, help them walk their character across the map.

KINDNESS PUZZLES
Cut out these kindness puzzles and divide the class to complete each puzzle. Then discuss.... If you were in the group teasing the kids with disabilities what would you do if you were showing kindness.

SCHOOL BUS HERO
I really love this story from the Friend, it demonstrates perfectly why being kind to others comes back to us. Read the story with the class then discuss.
First the boy on the bus is kind to the boy that hides behind the tree and THEN the boy behind the tree tries to find someone else to be kind to --- I just love that part--- kindness spreading like weeds!

{CTR} Primary 2, Lesson 21

For this week, I thought it would be fun to have two very different extremes in pictures and have the kids point out the differences. I've used a playground and a congregation during sacrament (printouts available in the download)

Ask questions to get them talking about the pictures.
What can we do when we are at the park? How can we act at the park?
What happens at church? How should we act at church?
What differences do you see in these pictures?

Possible comparisons:

Playground:
-outside
-dressed in play clothes
-running
-talking loud

Sacrament:
-inside
dressed in Sunday clothes
- use our quiet voices

If/when a child mentions at Sacrament we try to be reverent. Ask what that means.

Here's another idea from the Friend!
Bring in a hand puppet and begin doing some things with the puppet that might not be very reverent.
I really love this article and do this when my own boys need a little reminder.

Included in the download:
-The Playground/Sacrament illustrations
- Reverence handout

Here's a fun, large maze to teach about Reverence

{CTR) Primary 2, Lesson 20

For this lesson I've taken the summary out of the lesson and created printouts and a large treasure chest.

The teachings "choose the right" and "prayer" I've chosen two stories but you can easily choose stories that you feel are better suited for your own class. You can download the stories at the bottom of this post.

I also just loved the scripture in D&C so I made up a poster you can use with an illustration from the Friend.
(sized at 8x10)

Put up the treasure chest onto the board. Go through the lesson and discuss each of the treasures of Jesus Christ letting the kids put them up onto the board. Cut out extra circles (using a dinner plate and a poster you could make large enough) let the kids draw their own "treasure" and put up on the board.

Included in the download:
-6 circles with the teachings of Jesus Christ from the lesson summary
-large treasure chest
-D&C Scripture Poster

{CTR} Primary 2, Lesson 19

Begin with the large heart (or draw one) on the board. Ask each child to A) come up to the board and around the heart draw or write how they know that Jesus Christ loves them. B) Using strips of paper have the children write how they know that Jesus Christ loves them.

Read the stories of Jesus Christ found in Mark 10 and 3 Nephi 17. If you would like to summarize I've included printouts for the scriptures talking about Him blessing the children.

I loved the little activity so I've put the questions on little hearts that you can have the kids choose from or just do them in order.

And I found this cute little poem and wanted to share! You can download the poem from the Friend below.

{CTR} Primary 2, Lesson 17

LDS.org Primary 2, Lesson 17: The Priesthood Helps Me

I thought it could be fun to learn about the different responsibilities of each office of the Priesthood. Here's a fun printable chart to help the kids visualize and all are color coded for easy matching.

Have all of these laid out on the floor or the table. Using the pictures from the lesson discuss where and when each of the pictures can be done and which Priesthood can perform each.
*On your printer settings make sure that you uncheck the"fit to page" if you keep it check-marked it prints a lot smaller than you need it.

I've printed and laminated it for durability it is THE perfect size for kids to move around and learn. We're adding this one to our FHE pile!

{CTR} Primary 2, Lesson 16

Heavenly Father and Jesus love every person who asks to be healed, but sometimes people are not healed even when they are administered to. Some are not healed because Heavenly Father knows they can become stronger people by learning to live with their sickness or disability. Others are not healed because it is the right time for them to die and go back to Heavenly Father. We must have faith that Heavenly Father knows the best answer to each prayer.

{CTR} Primary 2, Lesson 15

LDS.org Primary 2, Lesson 15: Come, Follow Me

Here's a video of the story of the coat in the lesson with Heber J. Grant as a boy. It's such a great story!

Here's a great talk by President Henry B. Eyring that I just love about our Savior and His example for us to follow.
I loved this 12 ways that Jesus in our Example and I thought you could print this out and have a discussion on ways that we can follow His example of each of the ways. The download includes a full sheet, a sheet of 2, and a sheet of 4.

{CTR} Primary 2, Lesson 13

I wanted to share these stories from the Friend and let you show the story to the kids on one full sheet of paper. I've resized these stories to fit onto legal paper.
Print the stories from the Friend on legal paper (8.5x14)
Check your printer tray for an adjustment to the larger size.

(click on the stories to download)

This story is just amazing! The little girl is choking on a candy stuck in her throat. Her dad follows the prompting to go and find her.

This story has two different stories about the Holy Ghost helping us.
1) He prays for help in finding an arrow.
2) He prays for help to get safely over a mountain while flying.

This story the little girl prays for help in finding her stuffed cat.

{CTR} Primary 2, Lesson 11

I LOVE this Bright Ideas! And shows just how we can be a member missionary!

For this lesson, play a game of flashlight tag!

Share the scripture Matthew 5:16
"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven"

Bring in a flashlight and play some "tag" with questions about how we can be a missionary by being an example to those around us. Shine the light on someone to share how by our example we are being a missionary. Then let the child you picked have a turn to "tag" someone.

Here's some examples:

We are a missionary and are examples
in our conversations with others by having clean language and being careful not to offend others.

We can help others who are alone or sick and lift their spirits.

We can be kind and easy to forgive others and be grateful.

We can dress modestly.

We obey the Word of Wisdom

Every day there are opportunities to shine our light. The world is moving further away from Heavenly Father's commandments, this will make us stand out even more giving us more chances to be missionaries.

And we just had the missionaries over for dinner and they shared this video with us and I thought it was PERFECT for teaching us about being a missionary just by our examples and being a friend.

{CTR} Primary 2, Lesson 10

I'm really excited about this one because we did this with our boys (4 and 7) because prayers were getting a little rambunctious! You'll need scissors and a bunch of willing hands for all these letters but the kids will have a bunch of fun!

There's four words to go with each of the four body parts that we use in prayer. Head, mouth, arms, and eyes --- bow, fold, close, shut.

Scatter the letters on the floor. For the younger kids that just know the letters (unless you've got my 4 year old who refuses to say anything about any letters) you can write the words up on the board. And to challenge the older kids you can say the words one at a time. Select just 2-3 kids for each word to quickly find the letters for added fun bring in a stop watch and race to beat it before it goes off!
Put the body parts up on the board and have the tape handy as they find the letters that spell each word.

*If you don't like "shut" you can easily just use "close" twice but I wanted another word and my husband piped in*
Head= Bow
Mouth=Shut
Arms=Fold
Eyes= Close

Here's some prayers puzzles too that you can hide the pieces or number them and have each piece have a question about prayer. It includes both "boy" and "girl"
