December Sharing Time WK 2

I have received a new calling! I'm the Primary 1st Counselor and now I'll be joining you in teaching Sharing Time!! This week is my first week teaching, keep your fingers crossed for me!

This week was so fun to put together, I wanted this week to awesome as it's my first time so I was thinking of something that reminds us of the Second Coming and I thought of the parable of the 10 virgins. So here we go with a fun little game using the Parable. The lamp is pretty big and will be able to see from the back of the room. There's also blank drops of oil so you can either add some scenarios yourself or give out more drops of oil to include more kids.

Wish me luck guys! I'm pretty excited about giving this lesson, so we'll see how it goes!

$2.50

December Sharing Time WK 1

Materials Needed:
-Beanbag
-Printouts
-Scissors
- Tape/Sticky Tack

I love what's in the manual, using the scriptures to learn about prophesies of the birth of Jesus, but I wanted to add in a little something fun!

Cut out the pieces of the nativity puzzle. On the back of each piece write a scripture reference in the manual.

1) Isaiah 7:14; 9:6
2) 1 Nephi 11:14-15, 20-21
3) Mosiah 3:5-8
4) Mosiah 15:1
5) Alma 7:10-12
6) Helaman 14:1-3

Lay out the puzzle out on the floor (with space between each) with the picture side down. Divide up the classes into 6 groups, have one child from each group come up and toss a beanbag to see what scripture each group gets.
Let each group have some time discuss/share what the prophesies were and explain/share anything that you want to about each prophet. (how long before Christ's birth did they prophesy? - printout below the puzzle) Then come hang their piece onto the board.

Junior Primary

I also found this little printout from the Friend. I thought it would be cool to share with the kids how long before Christ's birth they prophesied that he would be born. And a cool little coloring page for Junior Primary.

(right click-save)

Another idea for Junior Primary or Senior Primary:

Bring a Nativity set and on the bottom of each pieces from the Nativity tape a piece of paper with the name of a Christmas song or a question about Christmas on it. Here's some questions:
1)What city did Mary and Joseph go to for Jesus to be born? (Bethlehem -Luke 2: 4-6)
2) In the stable after Jesus was born where did Mary lay him down? (Manger - Luke 2:7)
3) What happened to the shepherds who were watching their flocks? (An angel came and declared glad tidings Luke 2:8-10)
4) What did the heavenly hosts tell the shepherds? (Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men- Luke 2:13-14)
5) Who did the wise men visit before finding Jesus? (King Herod- Matthew 2:1-3)
6) What gifts did the wise men bring? (Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh- Matthew 2:11)
7) Why didn't the wise men go back to see King Herod? ( They were told not to in a dream- Matthew 2:12)
8) What was Joseph told to do after the Wise Men came? (Flee to Egypt because King Herod would try to kill Jesus- Matthew 2:13)
9) What happened the children near Bethlehem who were 2 years old and under when King Herod found out the Wise men weren't coming? (They were killed- Matthew 2:16)

November Sharing Time WK 4

For this week we'll be playing with the.... ABCs!!!

Materials needed:
-printouts (I've included a poster size so you can either see what it looks like or get it printed (finished size 22x24)
-tape/sticky tack
-scissors

Cut out all the leaves and print/cut out enough for a good majority (if not all of your kids) and put the poster tree up on the board. You'll begin Sharing Time by talking about how all month long we've been talking about all the things we have to be grateful for. And today we're going to play a game to see if we can find a bunch of blessings with the alphabet.

Begin with a random letter (or go in order) and ask all the As to stand up and shout out a blessing that begins with that letter. (talk about any that interest you or you'd like to talk about) then have the kids with that letter come up and put it on the tree. Continue throughout the entire alphabet. Some letters may be harder than others, so you can can make a list of those for ideas.

August Sharing Time Week 3 & 4

These weeks are my absolute favorite of this month. I saw the theme at the beginning of July and knew that this week(s) is going to be awesome! How wonderful to be able to teach the kids that answers to prayers do come!
This game goes along with  the game Candyland.

* I will be available to answer questions/send material until Saturday 10:30pm MST, both weeks. I will not be answering any emails or comments on Sundays so please don't be upset when I respond on Monday.
Please note there are no refunds for anything digital in the Etsy shop. Please email with questions. Thanks!

Please read the "Item Details" (writing under the preview) in Etsy if you have questions on how to play or how to assemble, I have written out everything, please let me know if you have questions!

$3.00 USA
- 28x22 "game board" (size of standard white poster) divided into 8x11 pages
- colored squares to make your own board
- 3 board "mover" pieces
- scenario "stickers" to add to the board
- 12 stories/scenarios where prayers are answered/not answered.
- 1 deck with cards to draw (will need to be printed as many times has you'd like)

Tape/put together your game board, and cut out the draw cards, glue the "scenario" stickers onto the squares you'd like. Strategically, shuffle the cards so you can make sure to get through the scenarios you like. Include scenarios of both a prayer being answered and no answered as same aren't answered right away.

When a kid gets onto a scenario, have their partner or you read the card after each card ask, "how was this prayer answered? After a few of the stories, ask the kids, "have you noticed anything about the answers to the prayers? Are they all answered the same way?

How to play:
Separate the kids into teams, each team in turn will draw from a draw pile (strategically "shuffle" the cards so you get to the ones you want to) and put their team's "mover" onto the correct color. On the board, you could also write "lose a turn", "go back to start", etc to make the game more "game-like". When the movers land on the scenario cards. Read the story and ask questions about how the prayers were/weren't answered. Maybe ask if any of the kids have a similar experience.

August Sharing Time WK 2

I'm so excited for this month's theme and was so disappointed that I couldn't find the time to finish last week's Sharing Time, I was almost done with it but alas family vacation awaited. Each month I look at the Sharing Times and kind of plot out what I think is a great way to share things with the kids. I pray about each lesson and start pulling up talks, scriptures, etc off the internet and study. Each week I'm always gobsmacked by the love Heavenly Father has for us and how He answers my little, old prayers on how to present each week's Sharing Time. So thank you, thank you for coming here and supporting me in my endeavors in making Primary just a little easier.

As always, please remember this is just a guide for you to help your lesson. This is for your Primary. Keep those little and big kids in your prayers as you study and learn for this week's lesson.

For this week, I couldn't get the thought out of my mind about a quote by President Hinckley of how we shouldn't say our prayers like we order pizza. So for this week's Sharing Time we'll be building a pizza!

*If you are confused or need extra help getting a hang of this Sharing Time please email me, I'm more than willing to answer questions. I can't really have a conversation in the comments.
The basis of the pizza is to "build our prayers" just as we build a pizza with yummy goodness.
The toppings could be blessings we receive by saying our prayers, places we can pray, have scenarios of maybe how we can ask for help, or ask the kids questions about prayer. This lesson truly is about YOUR Primary. I give suggestions and you decide how to best give a lesson.
Please email with questions, I will be "around" until about 11:30pm MST.

All of the Sharing Times mix together very well this month, it's okay to talk about things from earlier this month or touch on the next couple weeks.

 ------------------------------------------------------------

Ask, "What do you think of  when you listen/read this scripture in Alma?"
Pray.... When do we pray? Where do we pray? Who do we pray to?

After answers from the kids, read this quote:
"You don't have to be any place special for the Lord to [hear] answer your prayer. He knows where you are. He knows your name. He can answer you right here, right now, any moment."
Elder D. Todd Christofferson

Materials you'll need:
- printouts of pizza and piecings - everything can be printed at home, if you have questions/problems printing see the FAQs
-glue/tape for the kids to put the pieces on and to put the pizza crust onto the board

USE COUPON CODE: PIZZAPIZZA10
FOR 10% OFF! THROUGH SUNDAY, 8/11/13

$2.49 USA
Includes:
20x20 - 8.5x11 pages of pizza crust
tomato sauce and cheese
-individual pieces to fit onto pizza
-Instructions

Let the kids know, wherever you are, no matter what time, your Heavenly Father is there listening to your prayers. Answers may not come right away, but we are on His time, he will give us an answer to our prayers when the time is right. As we say sincere prayers, we will have a a stronger relationship with our Heavenly Father. Before you say your prayers, think of your day and what blessings you have received, what you are grateful, friends or family that may need some help, or maybe you need help on a test. It is through our prayers that we can receive strength and the courage to go through hard things, your Heavenly Father loves you and wants to help you.

And I loved this quote by President Monson :)

July Sharing Time WK 4

-----Please remember these ideas/guides are to help you create a lesson that is beneficial for your Primary. Pray about your lesson and find out what your Primary needs. Thanks so much for your support!

This week was a little harder to get ideas flowing, not sure why but it was.... I was looking through Church magazines hoping for something to spark. I was reading in the Liahona and ran across this quote and I had it!

"Each day as you choose to live the commandments, keep your baptismal covenants, and try to be more like Jesus Christ, you are preparing to go to the temple."  Vicki F. Matsumori

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Heavenly Father wants each of us to marry in the temple. It is only in the temple that we can be sealed as families for eternity.
What do you think is so special about temples?
-Temples are literally houses of the Lord. They are holy places of worship where people make sacred promises with God. They are sacred where Heavenly Father can teach, guide and bless us. It is in the temple where we can feel very close to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

Why do you want to go to the temple? (Write these on board) What are some things we can do to prepare to go to the temple?

Heavenly Father has given us some very special instructions that a prophet has given to us in addition to the commandments that can help us better understand the commandments. Can anyone think of what they are?

The Gospel Standards! What is a standard?
-A standard is a pattern that guides your life. Good standards will help you keep the commandments of God and be obedient.

Heavenly Father has given the Primary some very special standards that we can live by.

For these cards/posters, you'll be cutting them in half. Tape 1 half under a chair of some of kids at the beginning. And keep 1 half with you. Pick a kid to come up and tape their half up and then make it's match from the pile in your hand. (You probably won't have enough time to let all the kids do both halves). Or cut each into a puzzle and keep all the pieces except 1 piece as one child looks for that piece start talking and about how we can't do each standard without the whole thing, in order to be ready to go to the temple we must we worthy and by living the Gospel Standards we can.

I've created Gospel Standard cards/posters, you can find them for purchase HERE, use coupon code JULST10 (expires 7/28 evening) to receive 10% off any of the 3 sizes available (11x14, 8x10, 4x6).
*Please note 7/27, for those of you who purchase the posters and have problems. I will not be available from about 6-9pm MST. I will answer any and all emails/notes to sender as soon as I get home tonight. Thank you all so much for all your support!

1) I will follow Heavenly Father's plan for me.
-What's the plan being talked about?
How can following Heavenly Father's plan help us prepare to go to the temple?
We each are spirit children of our Heavenly Father, through His plan we each would come to Earth and have a mortal body and become more like him and to return to live with Him again. It is only through the temple that we can be together as families and live with Heavenly Father again.

2) I will remember my baptismal covenant and listen to the Holy Ghost.
What do we promise (covenant) when we are baptized?
Some of the promises we make when we are baptized are that we are willing to take upon ourselves the name of Jesus Christ, that we will always remember Him, and that we will keep His commandments.
What does it mean to "take upon ourselves the name of Jesus Christ"?
This means that we will always put the Lord first in our lives, by trying our hardest this think and act and Jesus would.

3) I will choose the right. I know I can repent when I make a mistake.
Has it ever been hard to choose the right? (Let kids answer/tell stories)
Heavenly Father knows that we are not perfect, we will make mistakes. He always wants us to choose the right but through mistakes we learn and grow. He has given us a wonderful gift for us to be forgiven of our mistakes, does anyone know what it is? (Repentance)
It is through repentance that we can be forgiven. As we come to Heavenly Father humbly and ask to be forgiven, we are saying that we will try our hardest and try to be better.

(I love this quote-and this would be a great place to share if you'd like)
"Courage isn't always grandiose. Sometimes courage is that little voice at the end of the day that says, "I'll try again tomorrow." President Thomas S. Monson

4) I will be honest with Heavenly Father, others, and myself.
Why do you think honesty is important? And can help us prepare to go to the temple.
To be honest means to tell the truth. We can be honest by having the courage to tell the truth, even when it sometimes may be hard. If we ask for help, Heavenly Father can help us to be honest through the Holy Ghost.
How do you feel when you are honest? (let kids answer)

5)I will use the names of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ reverently. I will not swear or use crude words.
(bring a dictionary- explain how there are many other words that we have to use)
How can our language help us prepare to go to the temple?
How do you feel when you say or hear swear words?
We should always use the names of Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost with reverence and respect. Misusing their names is a sin. Profane, vulgar, or crude language or gestures, as well as immoral jokes, are offensive to the Lord and to others.

"Profanity is filthiness. A person is known as much by his language as he is by the company he keeps.... Filthiness in any form is degrading and soul-destroying and should be avoided."
President Joseph Fielding Smith

6) I will do those things on the Sabbath that will help me feel close to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
The Sabbath is to be away from the world. It is to worship, renew our covenants by taking the sacrament, learn about Jesus Christ and the gospel, to sleep, and to be with family.
Keeping the Sabbath day holy includes not shopping on Sundays, not playing with friends and other things.
Can you think of others things that can help us to keep the Sabbath holy?

"If you have any doubt about the wisdom, the divinity of observing the Sabbath Day, ....stay home and gather your family about you, teach them the gospel, enjoy yourselves together on the Sabbath Day, come to your meetings, participate. You will know that the principle of the Sabbath is a true principle which brings with it great blessings." President Gordon B. Hinckley

7) I will honor my parents and do my part to strengthen my family.

Heavenly Father has blessed us with parents to love and teach us. We have been commanded to honor our parents. But what does honor mean? (Read Elder Oaks quote)
What are some ways that you can honor your parents?

"If you honor your parents, you will love them, respect them, confide in them, be considerate of the, express appreciation for them, and demonstrate all of these things by following their counsel in righteousness and by obeying the commandments of God." Elder Dallin H. Oaks

8) I will keep my mind and body sacred and pure, and I will not partake of things that are harmful to me.

Our bodies are gifts given to us from Heavenly Father. They are temples and we must treat them as temples.
What does that mean? To treat our bodies like temples?
We aren't big and white but we are sacred. As we protect our bodies and eat/drink things that are healthy will be blessed (D&C 89 for the blessings)

9) I will dress modestly to show respect for Heavenly Father and myself.
Through our dress and appearance, we cans how the Lord that we know how precious our bodies are. Our clothing expresses who we are. It sends messages about us, and it influences the way we and others act. When we are well groomed and modestly dress, we can invite the Holy Ghost to be with us and influence our friends and family around us.

10) I will only read and watch things that are pleasing to Heavenly Father.
In the world today, it is so easy to watch and read things that can hurt us,  but as we read good books and watch good shows we will be blessed with a clean mind and when we have a clean mind we have clean thoughts, which will turn into clean actions.
"Whatever media we read, watch, or listen to has an effect on us. Good entertainment will help you to have good thoughts and make righteous choices. It will allow you to enjoy yourself without losing the Spirit of the Lord. While much entertainment is good, some of it can lead you away from righteous living." For the Strength of Youth Pamphlet

11) I will only listen to music that is pleasing to Heavenly Father.
(You can talk about 11 at the same time number 10 as it all encompasses media- if you're running short on time)

12) I will seek good friends and treat others kindly.
I LOVE THIS STORY TO ILLUSTRATE THIS GOSPEL STANDARD

13) I will live now to be worthy to go to the temple and do my part to have an eternal family.
It is only in the temple that families can be sealed for eternity. Sacred work is performed in temples around the world. As we strive to obey the commandments and follow the gospel standards we can be ready to go to the temple when the time is right.

I found the most amazing handout that nothing I can do will give it justice. I am so grateful to be able to do this Sharing Time, I really had no ideas for this week but I prayed and asked that I'd find something that can help and now that I've just found this handout I feel as though my prayers were answered and Primaries will be blessed from this lesson and handout.

July Sharing Time Week 3

PLEASE REMEMBER THESE IDEAS ARE ONLY TO SPARK IDEAS FOR YOU, THIS IS NOT A COMPLETE LESSON AS ONLY YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR PRIMARY NEEDS TO HEAR. BE MINDFUL OF YOUR PRIMARY, PRAY ABOUT YOUR LESSON, AND YOU WILL GET HELP IN PREPARING.

For this week I have two ideas for you to choose from! I don't know where these came from (okay I do) but I love them!
 Toothpick and gumdrop bridge
Materials needed:
-Paper cup with string threaded through the top
like this, except you'll be tying the ends to your completed triangle bridge

-Marbles just enough to fill the cup you have
-Toothpicks (enough for Primary groups)
-Gumdrops (enough for Primary groups)

First and foremost, you're going to be building a bridge with toothpicks and gumdrops. you'll want to build it using triangles, it doesn't matter the length it's the point that matters (LOL pun not intended - you'll get it in just a sec). When pressure is applied to the square or the circle bridge they will collapse but with the triangle bridge it will stay steady and be able to hold more weight than you'd think (let the kids know this after they try making theirs. Some will just use squares and other may try other shapes.  Don't get rid of these, you'll want to take them to church to show the kids after their part is done.

Separate the Primary into groups (however you'd like, I think the easiest is by classes but that's my opinion)

Here's a videos showing why the triangle is the best shape, you can start watching about 2:50 in the video for the "reason" if you want to talk to your kiddos about that part of it. And this is a great instruction on putting them together.

Thank you to Nicole for "practicing" on how to make these! For yours to be able to hold more weight back sure that you reinforce it really well with more toothpicks to demonstrate how strong the Priesthood is in helping us,

At the beginning put the question below up on the board and read it out loud. (this would be where the pictures from the sharing time manual can come in)

DOWNLOAD "HOW CAN" HERE
DOWNLOAD PDF (coming soon)

The Priesthood strengthens us and our families much like the triangle bridge because the Priesthood is the power of God on Earth and as we use the Priesthood in our lives "we can become stronger, our talents and ability can be magnified and multiplied, our understanding can be greatly enlarged, and our spirituality can flower." (President James E. Faust)

What can happen if we don't have the Priesthood and aren't strong and sturdy? (if you see one of the groups with a "flimsy" bridge demonstrate it on their bridge by attaching one of the cups underneath hanging by the string and begin filling it with marbles until it collapses (it shouldn't take long). When are are going through tough things in our lives (bullying, classes, etc) we can ask for a blessing and it is through the Priesthood that we are given words that the Lord would want us to hear.

What happens when we have the strength of the Priesthood? (use yours or another of the kids' that you know is sturdy) and begin the marble part again.

Ideas are just flowing for this week so here's another idea!!

The Priesthood and Family Mobile

Grab the printable from week 1 with family cut-outs. You'll be making a mobile with them. Thank you so much to Chatter Bird, Becky, for her craftiness and pictures of how to assemble and how it looks at the end!

You can download how to make the mobile HERE, thank you Becky for the How to and pictures!

Materials needed:
-Printouts - it'd work best to print the Priesthood one on cardstock
-Scissors
-String/Twine/Fishing Line
-1-3 Straws (disposable is fine)

DOWNLOAD MOBILE PRIESTHOOD PIECE HERE
DOWNLOAD PDF (coming soon)

Put this up on the board after you ask what would happen if we took the Priesthood out of the mobile.
DOWNLOAD THE PRIESTHOOD HERE
DOWNLOAD PDF (coming soon)

For this idea, show the kids the mobile and ask what would happen if we cut the Priesthood out? (be ready to cut the string about the Priesthood circle. Let the kids answer then cut the string ABOVE the circle.
What blessings would our families miss out on if we didn't have the Priesthood?

July Sharing Time WK 2

Before I begin, I would like to just say how amazing this talk is, it is a must read before this lesson is prepared. For me, it will be printed out and studied. Such an amazing talk to read and study for this week's theme.

Okay so I have to admit that I was interested in seeing what a "mole cricket" looked like so I looked it up... holy moly cow, it's insane! Here's a Youtube video for those that are interested too :)
Okay so enough of the insect lesson and onto Sharing Time.

Put the quote from Elder Hales up on the board. You or one of the older kids read it out loud. Ask "What things can we do in our families that can invite the Spirit into our homes?"

Why do you think that it's important to have the Spirit in our homes?

As we strive to obey the prophets and do activities together, pray together as a family, and study the scriptures together we invite the Spirit into our homes to be our constant companion who will help us as a family and individuals closer to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and by doing that we are making our families stronger to the pressures and trials that come to each of us.

Set this up either on the board, on a table or you could even play a card game (Go Fish or something) with them. Print off 2-4 pages of each so there's plenty for kids to pick. As they pick on the chalkboard write how doing them can bless us and our families. (multiple reasons)

I'm looking for some new Chatter Birds if you're interested in helping me please contact me via email or FB you'll be getting freebies for your help. Thanks!
*Revise: In order to add you to the FB group for the Chatter Birds I'll need to friend request you so please message me on FB only so that we can get you started! Thanks so much for all the interest!

July Sharing Time Week 1

I absolutely love this lesson.... there's so many avenues you can take it, but I think that the most important is the ability to re-enforce that each is a child of God. Heavenly Father loves them.

HERE is a list for stories from the Friend on families... A couple of the ones that I love are:
A Perfect Match and Frankie, A Child of God

For these cut-outs, you can attach popsicle sticks to each and put them all into a can or bucket to be drawn out as kids pick them out have kids say how having that "person" in a family is a blessing.
