These are a request for Meredith and I LOVE how they turned out and am so excited to share these with you all.

These are made for your own creations in mind so that you can add these sweet things into a blank page and add whatever you need.

Each file is a separate .png file with transparent backgrounds. There are 27 files all together!

I was able to play with creating my own alpha and stitch around edges. Each spelled out for each of the average Primary class.

Now Meredith asked for a Come, Follow Me to use in anything and I just had so much fun making these that I just made up a few and kept adding.

I just loved the leafy frame around the Come, Follow Me that I wanted to add some more for the classes.

Scripture Story Readers

Just like last year the Friend is creating some really neat pages about different scripture stories but I want them all on one page. These are AWESOME to take along in the church bag! We've found so mnay uses from adding velcro to the back and just keeping them on the big sheet, to cutting them out and reassembling the story and adding some of our own.

Please remember that these are to be printed on legal paper (8.5x14), you can typically print at home by adjusting your printer tray. Make sure that you also make the adjustment in your printer settings to print on this size.

{Sharing Time} Dressing modestly shows respect for Heavenly Father and myself

This week is going to a tough one and I wish you the best of luck dear sisters! I think that this week is so hard to teach because you really just don't want to call out kids that you deem immodest. So what I wanted to do for this week it to share the WHY behind modesty.


I love what Elder Hales has said and I believe (doctrine according to me) that this is the reason we strive to be modest:
"Modesty is at the center of being pure and chaste, both in thought and deed. Thus, because it guides and influences our thoughts, behavior, and decisions, modesty is at the core of our character. Our clothing is more than just covering our bodies; it reflects who we are and what we want to be."

As I was studying for this lesson, I ran across this talk by Elder Hales and here's a part that he said:
"The next time you approach the temple, pause to look at the temple grounds. Have you ever considered why the temple is surrounded by beautiful plates, reflecting pools, and architecture? They give an outward presence and feeling that prepares the patron for the sacred ordinances that await inside the temple...Our clothing is equally important. It is the "landscaping" for presenting our bodies as temples. Just as the temple grounds portray the sacredness and reverence for what takes place inside the temple, our clothing portrays the beauty and purity of our inner selves."

I really just want to print Elder Hales talk and just blow it up and put it up everywhere so that we cam always remember why it's so important to be modest. Now when he said 'landscaping' it got me thinking that maybe just maybe we can use that to help these precious children WHY we dress modestly.

Now due to copyrights and me not wanting to me sued, you will need to do a Google search for two pictures. A house with a messy, unkempt yard and another of a clean, manicured yard. Below are  links to a couple pictures I think would be just perfect comparisons for the lesson.

Print these out onto full sheets and at the beginning of your lesson ask "which looks more inviting?" "which would you rather spend time playing in?" "Why is it more inviting/do you want to play there?

Write the children's responses and add your own if you like.

 ~ it's clean/ it's dirty 

~ it's taken care of and loved by the owner

~ there's garbage everywhere

~it wouldn't be easy/fun to play in the grass

~ it's relaxing

By just looking at this picture -hold up the manicured lawn- we know that this owner loves their home and wants to take care of it.

Just like this lawn, we can show Heavenly Father that we love and are grateful for our bodies by taking care of it. One way we can take care of our bodies is by dressing modestly. As we dress modestly we invite the Spirit to be with us. When we choose to dress modestly we send a message to those around us that we know who we are, sons and daughters of God.

I also found this article in the Friend that I think talks about modesty beautifully without getting into the clothing too terribly much.

To add a bit more to your lesson you can bring in items to represent each point and have the kids pick the items then discuss.
(I will not go further into this topic as I believe that it is you dear sisters that knows exactly what your Primary needs to hear about why we are modest)

Courage to Choose Modesty - this talk is AMAZING and clearly goes over the doctrine, many of this is more for parents than children but I think you can add and incorporate it's teachings.

{Sharing Time} My Body is a Temple

2016 Sharing Time Outline: August

Introduce the doctrine: Before Primary, write the phrase “Ye are the temple of God” (1 Corinthians 3:16) on the board. Show the children pictures of temples, and ask them what makes a temple so special (it is a house of the Lord, clean, well cared for, and a place where the Holy Ghost can come). Write their responses on the board. Explain that our bodies, like temples, are sacred and need to be treated with respect by ourself and others.

Encourage understanding and application: Copy the picture on page 47 of the nursery manual, Behold Your Little Ones. Cut out the circles in the picture, and put them in a container. Ask a child to choose one of the circles. Ask the children how the picture reminds them to treat their bodies like temples. Give each child a copy of the picture, and invite them to color it. Invite older children to write one thing under each circle that they will do this week to treat their bodies like temples. Invite the children to take their pictures home to teach their family how they can treat their bodies like temples.

Encourage application: Display a copy of “My Gospel Standards.” Ask the children to identify which gospel standards teach them how to treat their bodies like temples. Invite the children to turn to someone sitting nearby and share one way they are treating their body like a temple. Then ask them to think about one way they can improve. Invite a few of the children to share their thoughts with everyone.

In this article, the author poses 5 questions and they are just so good and perfect for what we need to get across that I didn't want to change them. They are:
What's great about having a body?
Why do we have bodies?
What if there are things I don't like about my body? (I love this one!)
Why doesn't everyone look alike?
How should I treat my body?


I have created board size printouts with these questions and an "answer" box for each that are all color coded. You can play different variations with these.

1) Bring in some sticky darts and see if the kids can "dart" the pairs then discuss. Bean bags are also great for this (with the ground rules of no throwing)
These sticky darts are the ones I always have on hand but you can typically find them at party supply stores.

2) Create key words for each of the answer boxes and  have the kids try to match the key word (write or print on the back of the answer boxes) to the question.

3) Have all the questions up on the board, scatter the answer boxes around the room on walls, under chairs, etc. Have the kids find the answer box that goes with the question, then discuss.




I have also included some illustrations from different Friend magazines about some things we can do with our bodies. You can put these up with the temple pictures from the "Introduce the doctrine" and ask the kids how are our bodies the same as temples?
There are 5 in all for the illustrations.





I wanted you to be able to send the kids home with something to summarize the lesson and I just loved this illustration from Susan Fitch and knew that it'd be perfect for this handout.

Primary Classroom: Non-Food Incentives

Above rewards, be sure to validate the children when they are doing something good. You can praise them verbally "Great job, Jenny!", "Thank you for listening, Blake!", smiling at them, giving a hug, a high five etc. Mail a note home, call a parent, etc. These mean a lot more to children than a toy, it shows that you love them.

Oriental Trading is a great resource for small inexpensive trinkets and toys, best of all they have assortments to just click and choose. I've included links to some of my kiddos' favorites.
Put these all into a box with a lid. Make sure to involve the kids in deciding how they earn these.

Here are some 100 count charts you can use for a sticker system.

The charts are 16x24, you can easily print these for about $3 as an engineering print 
(Staples.com does this) 

You can let the kids earn stickers for being kind, bringing their scriptures, taking things to the library, participating, etc.... You could also easily include the kids in what they think is fair to earn stickers, how many they can earn, etc....

Then once the chart is filled out you can have a party, play some minute to win it games (SO FUN!), invite a special guest, have class outside for a few weeks (cold outside? maybe do it on the stage)
 Teacher/bishopric member performs a "dare"
- dance like a cowboy
- drink a cup of ice water really fast
- cut your tie (just wear a cheap/DI tie and let the kids take turns cutting it)
- spin around and try and walk a straight line
- sing a Primary song with your mouth full of marshmallows
-eat a pudding cup without using your hands
-say the alphabet as fast as you can backwards
-put on a puppet show about your favorite scripture hero

Primary Get to know you Games

The first of the year is just around the corner! And that means new teachers for those adorable kiddos, it's always hard... my son HATES it but here's some games to get you teachers ready for that first Sunday and get to know your new kids and learn something new about the ones you keep.

M&Ms Game
You will need a bag of M&Ms and a bowl. Create questions for each color from the bag (example below) Hold the bowl up so the kids can't see the color they pick
If the kids pick:
Red= tell us your favorite activity to do
Orange= tell us your favorite thing at school
Yellow= tell us the chore you hate to do
Blue= tell us something you want to learn how to do
Green= tell us your favorite treat
Brown= tell us your favorite movie or tv show

Don't forget to do it yourself so the kids can get to know you too!

Toss n' Talk Game
On a large ball (those balls you find at Walmart in the "cages") with a permanent marker write questions around the ball. (Question ideas are below)
Begin class on the floor with all the kids and you in a circle,  roll or gently toss the ball whatever question their right thumb (right hand/left pinky, etc) that's what they answer.


Jenga
On the blocks, write questions to get to know the kids (Question ideas below), set up the game on the table, have the kids and you take turns picking out the blocks and answer the question on them.

Question ideas:

1)Who is your favorite scripture story character?
2) If you could have any animal for a pet what would it be?
3) What is your favorite breakfast?
4) What is your favorite movie or tv show?
5) If you could eat one food for a whole month, what would it be?
6) What is your favorite subject in school?
7) Would you rather cake or brownies?
8) Where were you born?
9) What do you think is in outer space?
10) If you were invisible for a day, what would you do?
11) What is the worst smell?
12) What do you want to do when you grow up?
13) If you had 1 million dollars, what would you buy?
14) What is your favorite Primary song?
15) What do you like to do when you play outside?
16) Do you have a lucky number? What is it and why is it lucky for you?
17) What is the best thing about being a kid?
18) What is your favorite color?
19) Do you have a favorite joke? What is it?
20) If you were president for a day, what would you do?

Primary Classroom: Difficult Behaviors

Please note that these ideas are not for disciplining your class but to only encourage participation and positive reinforcements when they make good choices.


-While teaching, walk over to child and just lightly squeeze/tap their shoulder, they will know why you did it.
-When a child has a good day, call them or send them a card to simply say that you are proud of them.
-Talk with parents and see if there is something you can do to help the child to be an active participant.

One key to establishing good behavior is to create a list of expectations of the kids. It's easier for them to behave well when they know what is expected.

Assigned seats - this is an easy thing to do

Bead System - give each child a pipe cleaner (attach their name with masking tape) every time you catch them doing good behavior they get a bead.


Using a large plastic jar, have the children earn marbles, pennies, tokens, tickets,etc

Ways to earn?

-participation

-good behavior

-bringing scriptures

-helping take things to the library

-being kind to others

completing challenge/journal page from previous week

Make a puzzle
Class earns the puzzle pieces each week to complete the full puzzle.


Hidden Picture
Blow up a Hidden Picture from the Friend. At the end of class, let those that had good behaviors find and color an item in the picture.

You can have rewards for the whole class or for individual kids.

50 ways to get kids' attention
Here's some fun attention grabbers:

Are your kids just a little fidgety?
Here's some different toys to try to keep their hands busy (each of these I have personally and they have helped with our Primary significantly! We are currently using them with children on the Autism Spectrum as well as just those kids that need some energy out)

Spiky Balls -rule: they can't throw or bounce them 
These are especially great with the kids that need the sensory aspect. Playing with these helps to calm them down from being overstimulated. For my own son, this is one of his favorites. Singing time is one of the harder times for him because the kids are laughing and being for loud.






Water Wigglies (these are the perfect size for small kids hands 5") or Water Wands (these are a about a foot and we've found that they can be more distracting than anything)- these are just relaxing to watch and you can have the kids change hands to keep their hands occupied.

Tangles - these are AMAZING! We purchased the set of 3. These are just a continuous loop that you can twist and manipulate and are seriously lifesavers!









Water Bubbler - this is probably the one that the kids take turns with each Sunday for us. They just love watching it.

July Sharing Time WK 4

This week was a little harder to get ideas flowing, not sure why but it was.... I was looking through Church magazines hoping for something to spark. I was reading in the Liahona and ran across this quote and I had it!

"Each day as you choose to live the commandments, keep your baptismal covenants, and try to be more like Jesus Christ, you are preparing to go to the temple."  Vicki F. Matsumori

Heavenly Father wants each of us to marry in the temple. It is only in the temple that we can be sealed as families for eternity.
What do you think is so special about temples?
-Temples are literally houses of the Lord. They are holy places of worship where people make sacred promises with God. They are sacred where Heavenly Father can teach, guide and bless us. It is in the temple where we can feel very close to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

Why do you want to go to the temple? (Write these on board) What are some things we can do to prepare to go to the temple?

Heavenly Father has given us some very special instructions that a prophet has given to us in addition to the commandments that can help us better understand the commandments. Can anyone think of what they are?

The Gospel Standards! What is a standard?
-A standard is a pattern that guides your life. Good standards will help you keep the commandments of God and be obedient.

Heavenly Father has given the Primary some very special standards that we can live by.

For these cards/posters, you'll be cutting them in half. Tape 1 half under a chair of some of kids at the beginning. And keep 1 half with you. Pick a kid to come up and tape their half up and then make it's match from the pile in your hand. (You probably won't have enough time to let all the kids do both halves). Or cut each into a puzzle and keep all the pieces except 1 piece as one child looks for that piece start talking and about how we can't do each standard without the whole thing, in order to be ready to go to the temple we must we worthy and by living the Gospel Standards we can.

1) I will follow Heavenly Father's plan for me. 
-What's the plan being talked about?
How can following Heavenly Father's plan help us prepare to go to the temple?
We each are spirit children of our Heavenly Father, through His plan we each would come to Earth and have a mortal body and become more like him and to return to live with Him again. It is only through the temple that we can be together as families and live with Heavenly Father again.

2) I will remember my baptismal covenant and listen to the Holy Ghost.
What do we promise (covenant) when we are baptized?
Some of the promises we make when we are baptized are that we are willing to take upon ourselves the name of Jesus Christ, that we will always remember Him, and that we will keep His commandments.
What does it mean to "take upon ourselves the name of Jesus Christ"?
This means that we will always put the Lord first in our lives, by trying our hardest this think and act and Jesus would.

3) I will choose the right. I know I can repent when I make a mistake.
Has it ever been hard to choose the right? (Let kids answer/tell stories)
Heavenly Father knows that we are not perfect, we will make mistakes. He always wants us to choose the right but through mistakes we learn and grow. He has given us a wonderful gift for us to be forgiven of our mistakes, does anyone know what it is? (Repentance)
It is through repentance that we can be forgiven. As we come to Heavenly Father humbly and ask to be forgiven, we are saying that we will try our hardest and try to be better.

(I love this quote-and this would be a great place to share if you'd like)

4) I will be honest with Heavenly Father, others, and myself.
Why do you think honesty is important? And can help us prepare to go to the temple.
To be honest means to tell the truth. We can be honest by having the courage to tell the truth, even when it sometimes may be hard. If we ask for help, Heavenly Father can help us to be honest through the Holy Ghost.
How do you feel when you are honest? (let kids answer)

5)I will use the names of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ reverently. I will not swear or use crude words.
(bring a dictionary- explain how there are many other words that we have to use)
How can our language help us prepare to go to the temple?
How do you feel when you say or hear swear words?
We should always use the names of Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost with reverence and respect. Misusing their names is a sin. Profane, vulgar, or crude language or gestures, as well as immoral jokes, are offensive to the Lord and to others.

"Profanity is filthiness. A person is known as much by his language as he is by the company he keeps.... Filthiness in any form is degrading and soul-destroying and should be avoided."
President Joseph Fielding Smith

6) I will do those things on the Sabbath that will help me feel close to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
The Sabbath is to be away from the world. It is to worship, renew our covenants by taking the sacrament, learn about Jesus Christ and the gospel, to sleep, and to be with family.
Keeping the Sabbath day holy includes not shopping on Sundays, not playing with friends and other things.
Can you think of others things that can help us to keep the Sabbath holy?

You will know that the principle of the Sabbath is a true principle which brings with it great blessings." President Gordon B. Hinckley

7) I will honor my parents and do my part to strengthen my family.

Heavenly Father has blessed us with parents to love and teach us. We have been commanded to honor our parents. But what does honor mean? (Read Elder Oaks quote)
What are some ways that you can honor your parents?

"If you honor your parents, you will love them, respect them, confide in them, be considerate of the, express appreciation for them, and demonstrate all of these things by following their counsel in righteousness and by obeying the commandments of God." Elder Dallin H. Oaks

8) I will keep my mind and body sacred and pure, and I will not partake of things that are harmful to me.

Our bodies are gifts given to us from Heavenly Father. They are temples and we must treat them as temples.
What does that mean? To treat our bodies like temples?
We aren't big and white but we are sacred. As we protect our bodies and eat/drink things that are healthy will be blessed (D&C 89 for the blessings)

9) I will dress modestly to show respect for Heavenly Father and myself.
Through our dress and appearance, we cans how the Lord that we know how precious our bodies are. Our clothing expresses who we are. It sends messages about us, and it influences the way we and others act. When we are well groomed and modestly dress, we can invite the Holy Ghost to be with us and influence our friends and family around us.

10) I will only read and watch things that are pleasing to Heavenly Father.
In the world today, it is so easy to watch and read things that can hurt us,  but as we read good books and watch good shows we will be blessed with a clean mind and when we have a clean mind we have clean thoughts, which will turn into clean actions.
"Whatever media we read, watch, or listen to has an effect on us. Good entertainment will help you to have good thoughts and make righteous choices. It will allow you to enjoy yourself without losing the Spirit of the Lord. While much entertainment is good, some of it can lead you away from righteous living." For the Strength of Youth Pamphlet

11) I will only listen to music that is pleasing to Heavenly Father. 
(You can talk about 11 at the same time number 10 as it all encompasses media- if you're running short on time)

12) I will seek good friends and treat others kindly.
I LOVE THIS STORY TO ILLUSTRATE THIS GOSPEL STANDARD

13) I will live now to be worthy to go to the temple and do my part to have an eternal family.
It is only in the temple that families can be sealed for eternity. Sacred work is performed in temples around the world. As we strive to obey the commandments and follow the gospel standards we can be ready to go to the temple when the time is right.


I found the most amazing handout that nothing I can do will give it justice. I am so grateful to be able to do this Sharing Time, I really had no ideas for this week but I prayed and asked that I'd find something that can help and now that I've just found this handout I feel as though my prayers were answered and Primaries will be blessed from this lesson and handout.

February WK 4 Sharing Time

So for this week, materials you'll need are:

2 small puzzles -12-35 pieces - the dollar store is a great place to look. If you don't want to do 2 puzzles you could do one large puzzle especially if you have a large Primary and have the outer edge already made and glued to a posterboard.
Glue
Printout
Scissors
Exacto Knife


Make the puzzles once you're done you'll be cutting and gluing the printout to the back with the text facing you. You could also easily modge podge it to the puzzle for lasting durability. If you don't want to spend the extra money you can make your own modge podge. Let that dry over night, once you have it dried, using the exacto knife (or similar) and cut off the pieces.

You could also make a puzzle backwards, with a few pieces pieces and then explaining a little bit more. So glue the printout onto a paper/posterboard (if you need a bigger size let me know-latterdaychatter@hotmail.com) then hang the puzzle up. You could do a google search for a paper puzzle instead of an actual puzzle for this one. Then as the kids take the puzzle pieces down they'll be uncovering the printout.

Now on Sunday, you'll be leaving a few pieces out of each puzzle, this part is important to the lesson. You'll separate the kids however you wish, soon enough the kids will figure out that there's a few pieces missing. You will begin talking about how we have to keep all the commandments to return to live with Heavenly Father, we can't have a few pieces missing. All the commandments have to be obeyed. Without them all we won't have the full picture.
We must always strive to live by the Lord's commandments, sometimes commandments can be hard to obey, how can we receive help in obeying the commandments (the Holy Ghost)? How do you feel when you have obeyed the commandments?

(You could also make up scenarios and go from there) If you're doing the paper puzzle you could also write up scenarios on the pieces and as the kids pick them you can go over that scenario.

January Sharing Time WK 4

Time to pull out your poster board again for a fun little game for this week's Sharing Time. It's a cross between a "Candyland" type game and Checkers.

First you'll need to print out the checkboard pages, I've put them onto 8.5x11 pages for easy printing, you'll need about 8 to fit and glue onto a standard poster board. Also print out the 8 "scenerios" and then glue it onto the checkerboard where ever you'd like I would tape or contact paper over the checkerboard to avoid any rips or tears. You'll need some gems or something as the "checkers", the dollar store has the little gems that'll work great. You'll also need some magnets to keep all the pieces and poster on the board.

To play: Separating by "teams", begin by playing checkers. When one of the kids lands on a picture, you'll talk about the consequences that the kids think would happen. For example:

- paying tithing: blessings, obeying the commandments
- messy room: could get hurt, don't know where things are

and then no matter where they are they have to jump to the corresponding picture (there are just 4 different scenarios) and then continue playing like checkers

 I've also included in the download blow ups of each of the little pictures so that all the kids can see.

January Week 2 & 3 Sharing Time

I am so excited about the next 2 weeks of Sharing Time!! I love the Plan of Salvation and I hope that you can use my ideas to help your kids know where they came from and they each is important no matter who they are or the challenges they may have. I will be posting two ideas one for each week.

For this, as spaces, I think it would be a great teaching learning experience for the children. For them to share what they know about each, and maybe share what they are struggling with on this Earth. And as each child says something move the pieces (handicapped children) over more and more and then begin talking about the next topic. There's no winners or losers just a fun way of having the children share what they know.

A New Year and New Features

I have completed 2012!! What a year!!
And here begins a brand new year!! Full of exciting new things. For this year, you will find handouts and other printables available in color but also in black and white, for those of you using your church printers or those just wanting black and white. Another exciting new add-on, each download will be available as a Word document or as a PDF as well as a jpeg. I want to thank Becky H., Dede B., and Brittany S. so so much for helping create those new features, you will also continue to find editable documents where applicable.
I have also decided to create ideas for lapbook ideas for you to create at home to help emphasize the teachings from the Primary theme and bring it into your week. I'm so so excited about this. I find it so important, especially now when less and less good is at the schools and communities, to find a fun way to bring what we learn at church to our homes. You will  find journaling pages for each week, with space to color/draw for the younger children and you will also find scripture journaling prompts for Primary 5 and the weekly sharing time.

I hope you will find these awesome new features as exciting as I do. If you have a request for 2013, please don't hesitate to ask, I'm open to creating anything!

I just want to thank all of you so much for you coming here, for sharing this amazing experience with me, this blog wouldn't be what it is without the amazing followers that it has. This blog has turned into somewhat a calling and I am truly blessed by this chance at serving those all around the world, in what I feel is the best place in the Church, the Primary. This blog has morphed from everything LDS to focusing more and more on Primary. I remember when I made the decision through much prayer to just focus on Primary and I can't think of anything I'd rather do than Primary. Your comments and emails mean so so much to me and to my family. I feel as though I have gained so many wonderful blessings because of this experience. I want to thank all of the Chatter Birds, they are truly amazing with their selfless service to me and to you, my readers. Thank you ladies!!

In addition to my email and Facebook page, I will also be getting a PO Box... I have gotten so many offers and gifts that I feel that that is the best way to keep  my family safe, I'll be putting that PO Box address in my Contact/FAQs page.
